Great food, friendly staff and nice atmosphere, despite being empty at 6pm on a Friday night. Lovely authentic Italian menu and pasta dishes, but I don't rate the creme brulee!

I expected with the menu that with italian, it should be cooked perfectly. called up early and booked a table for 3 and was astonished by the waitress saying they were almost fully booked and had come come in at 7.30 to get a seat. When sitting in the restaurant, which might i add was empty i was astonished to see that the restaurant wasn't fully booked at all, as said by the waitress on the phone. The specials were confusing and very complicated and felt that there were too many to select from the menu which may have altered the quality of the food. I ordered a steak to come out Rare, but got medium well instead. Was also highly disappointed at the overcooked and scrambled brûlée that was over burnt on the top. Was very overpriced for what we got in the end. Overall, alright staff and atmosphere but i would never recommend the food to anybody, and at that price.

If you have ever been to Italy you can't help but end up with rather high standards when it comes to Italian food. For us 'When in Rome' wasnt quite able to meet them.

Greek feta on the Italian menue confused us and the pizzas felt so heavy in our tummys that we were left with a rumble for hours afterwards.

Service was slow and unorganised, the latter in fact did remind us of Italy and isnt something we usually fuss about as long as the food delivers which it didnt.

Although the pizzas at least weren't the american style thick base type you get served elsewhere in NZ they still arent something to come back for.

We make more authentic tasting pizzas at home in our standard electric oven and until we have the chance to go back to the 'real' Rome and eat the real stuff we will stick to just that.

Unfortunately due to feeling a bit unwell, we just bought take away pizza and garlic bread, and only wished we had stayed for a sit-down meal.

The pizza was amazing. The topping was delicious and tasty and the thin pizza crust was melt-in-your-mouth and crispy! Gorgeous.

We are keen to return to When in Rome on our next visit to Nelson and try out the service and the pasta. :)
