“Impressive Guided Tour”
Reviewed March 10, 2013

We returned for a second visit to Broadgreen, this time with a 7 year old who had already shown disinterest in museums. But Broadgreen was a hit, mainly due to our guide who made the tour child-appropriate and lots of fun.
We enjoyed exploring the rooms, imaginging which bedroom we would have as our own and also trying on a trunk full of mainly period clothing. The knee-length lacy bloomers were a huge hit.
Thanks for a great tour and thanks for showing our young one that history is relevant and fun.

The pup loved strolling through the extensive rose gardens too.

“Wet day in Nelson”
Reviewed October 7, 2012

One of the best colonial houses I have ever visited in my 70 years. Beautifully and authentically displayed with an excellent commentary. A credit to the Nelson council and volunteers. Too wet to view the garden. The bluebells were out and the roses in bud.

“Wonderful Quilt Show in Fabulous Setting”
Reviewed April 9, 2012

We visited Broadgreen at the Easter Quilt Show and had a thoroughly enjoyable time. The house is stuffed full of interesting furniture and details, all dating from the period though not necessarily original to the house. Plus the period quilts, linens and lacework was exquisite.

Our own personal guide took us around, pointing out various objects while telling us about each room and the two families who called Broadgreen home. Then we were left to our own devises to wander as we wanted (which I always prefer), plus we walked through the extensive rose gardens to enjoy the late blooms.

Nelson has a good number of historic homes and Broadgreen is possibly one of the more modest historic homes though packed full of interesting detail. Well worth a visit... and their postcards are a very reasonable 50 cents each :)
