As we pulled into the lovely grounds and Flavia, the 4-legged welcoming committee, came to greet us, we knew we had found "home" for the next 3 nights. We felt like invited guests at a perfect country retreat. Our hosts were gracious, welcoming, charming, interesting and engaging. The rooms were warm, comfortable and sophisticated, representing lives well-lived. All our meals were excellent, not to mention the lovely Retiro Park wines. This was a very special destination.

Great place to stay. We enjoyed the full experience!

The propoerty is in amazing spot. Secluded area covered with gardens and trees. Animals in all corners.

Hospitality provided by the hosts was first rate. They were both friendly, engaging and did anything possible to help us enjoy our stay. Food prepared was delicious.

We both enjoy running and were pleased to find the stream the property is adjacent too has a good road for running into the hills/pine plantation.

This place is to be enjoyed. Treat yourselves.

Finding the way to Retiro was a picturesque journey via Queen Charlotte Drive from Picton. Surrounding by mountains and trees, the lodge is definitely a place for tranquility and serenity. A farm of vineyard, olives, alpacas, llamas, hens and ducks has setting anyone as close to a simple farm live as possible.

The room that we were staying in is a separate unit from the host unit. The vintage-designed room is spacious for 2, clean and nicely decorated. A small kitchen serves well for a pot of tea or coffee. A balcony overviewing the farm and hearing the sound from the nature and animals, soothing & calming... Good WiFi signal in room though a distance off from the host unit.

We were welcomed by Robert, a friendly and warmth host. We were served with in-house wine (winery by Victor) and homely-cook dinner, along with friendly chats & sharing. Particularly surprisingly (rather impressively) Robert concerned about the status of Her Majesty Queen Sirikit of Thailand. A good ambience of having simple breakfast in a garden conservatory (a small green house/hut) with Spanish songs was a great and different experience..

A stay in Retiro was a memorable one and we would not hesitate to return in our next trip to Nelson.

After considerable research we decided to book the Retiro Park Lodge for a stay in the Nelson area. The Retiro Park Lodge turned out to be a destination in itself. The accommodations are luxurious, private and spacious. The setting is tranquil, picturesque, and rural with vineyards, olive groves and lots of different animals, notably alpacas and llamas.
Robbert and Victor were exceptional and kind hosts, entertaining us and guiding us around their beautiful property. We were treated to wines from their vineyards and freshly baked goods not to mention the gourmet breakfasts served in the conservatory. Robbert and Victor welcomed us into their home and treated us like friends, engaging in stimulating conversations and providing helpful and expert knowledge of the area and activities.
Overall, it was an outstanding and truly memorable stay such that we would not hesitate to return.

Nelson is the last stop of our journey in NZ. Retiro is a very cozy and beautiful place to stay, and not only to eat & sleep - a big and beautiful farm is a nice superise for all of us. Rob and Victor are very warm hearted and knowlegable hosts. We are travelling with two young girls, they like staying at Retiro too. By the way, we would highly recomment the dinner - Victor is a super good cook, and he cooked with love!

Retiro Park Lodge was the first stop on the South Island during our trip around New Zealand. It is a really lovely house, set in beautiful gardens. Unfortunately, Robbert, one of the owners, had been called away before our arrival, so we did not get to meet him during our stay. However, Victor was a great host. Nothing was too much trouble for him and he made some great suggestions of where to visit in and around Nelson. Victor also cooked a lovely meal for us on our first evening and it was great to sit and chat to him over a few glasses of wine. Would highly recommend Retiro Park Lodge if you are visiting Nelson. Flavia is also very beautiful!

Robbert and Victor are the most accommodating, generous and entertaining guys. They were game enough to let us take over for the day of our wedding with 80-90 guests rolling in to enjoy the beautiful gardens. Super helpful with the planning and so good at keeping the busy mood light and fun.

We (the happy couple) spent our first married night at the lodge, we enjoyed a beautiful breakfast the following morning and I really couldn't think of a thing I would change about our day!

Thank you so much Robbert and Victor for making this girls dream wedding a reality.
