My family closed this restaurant last weekend after the best meal we had traveling for a week through the Nelson Marlborough region. We visited a number of the top recommended restaurants in the region and frankly many don't live up to their reputation. Everywhere you go you are shown virtually the same menu so we were looking for something more creative and Relish provided what others couldn't. They make use of a lot of Asian flavors in creative ways and take care in the preparation and presentation. My goat cheese souffle was slow in coming but that is because the chef wasn't happy with his first attempt. He obviously really cares about the quality of the food and attention to detail which is so often lacking. I am not certain why Relish is 6th on the list, we ate at some of the higher scoring restaurants and found them less innovative or crowded. We didn't sit on the deck but the views out the windows made up for that and we didn't feel let down by our seating. We are very happy we ended our holiday with a meal at Relish.

Sitting out on the deck overlooking the harbour was a great way to spend an evening. A superbly cooked steak, wine that is not overpriced and pleasant wait staff made this a great night out

My husband and I love Nelson.
You must stay at Te Puna Wei B&B and you must eat at Relish. It will be the perfect way to spend your evening. I had the lamb, it was perfect. My husband had the steak. Mouth-watering. Perfect portions. Our dessert was amazing! Great Service. Nice intimate lighting. Excellent place to dine.

'Relish' is a gem of a restaurant that's sadly overlooked. We dined there twice and on each occasion we were astonished that people weren't queuing for a table! (Hopefully this review will help to change that.) 'Relish' has no street-level frontage and this perhaps puts off some people. However, it takes but a moment to climb the stairs to the restaurant and it's well worth it. The quality and originality of the food at 'Relish' is better than in any other of Nelson's fine dining restaurants (we tried them) and the equal of a five-star restaurant in a capital city. The restaurant itself is light and spacious; the staff - including the chef/owner - are helpful and friendly; and its view of the bay is unmatched. Climb those stairs - you won't regret it!

We went as two couples with child to lunch one weekday. we were the only ones there at 1230pm. The menu was indeed interesting, and the first three dishes the waitress explained would be enough to satisfy a lunch time meal. I ordered seafood chowder and to drink mojito. Service was nice, unfortunately mojito was not, tasted only of soda water, but still drinkable. As we were the only ones in the restaurant we found the waiting time of around 40 mins a bit long however as being on holiday and having a great view cant complain. Husband had a steak dish off the main menu which was eaten with gusto very quickly and was told how lovely it was.

We would have gladly remade your Mojito for you,

We do cook everything from fresh. This ensures lovely food but also takes time!!!

We thankyou for the time taken to review us and wish you all the best.
