Interesting concept of english village with several cottages just by the seaside. Hotel is located a bit out of the Nelson near the city airport. It’s the best option for quiet, relaxing stay. In the hotel you can rent a bike and use many accessible bicycles routes just by the nature. Although hotel is old fashioned, rooms are small and dark. Menu in hotel’s restaurant is very limited.

Dear Marcin2707

Thanks for your feedback/review following your recent stay, we appreciate you comments.

I do hope you enjoyed your stay with us, our bike hire option is popular with many of our guests, some of whom choose to go out and explore the Tasman Great Taste trail which passes directly in front of the hotel. Our rooms aren't all small, they vary in size from 19m2 (our Cosy and Seaview rooms), to our 50m2 Garden and Laneway suites, and our largest cottages and terrace houses are 80m2.

We have recently begun a programme of improvements which includes new and improved lighting, new furniture, fixtures and fittings and a repaint. This refurbishment is underway, however it will take us some time to roll this out across all our rooms, but we're confident that the changes will provide a more contemporary look and feel to the rooms.

The restaurant menu features six choices of starters ('small bites'), a choice of six larger courses ('sharing plates'), a sharing platter option (which is designed for 2 or 3 people to share), a choice of 7 side dishes to accompany the mains, followed by six different dessert dishes to choose from, plus a choice of cheeses. All of which is accompanied by an extensive beverages list. So, I'm not sure that I'd call that a "very limited" menu!

Once again, thanks for your feedback, we hope to see you again in due course.

Warm regards
Nick, on behalf of the entire team at the Grand Mercure Nelson Monaco

Super location just outside Nelson. Rooms functional but all too dark. Needs a refurbishment to bring it up to date. Cutlery and glasses in the room don’t match all a bit of a notch potch. Staff very friendly and helpful. With some tlc could be excellent.

Dear davidmI7842NY

Thanks for your review/feedback, it's much appreciated.

You'll be pleased to know, as are we, that we have recently begun a programme of rooms refurbishment which includes new and improved lighting, new furniture, fixtures and fittings and a repaint. This refurbishment is underway, however it will take us some time to roll this out across all our rooms, but once completed we're confident it will address the issues you mention. (Although, I'm not sure if glassware and cutlery are on the list).

Once again, thanks again for your review.

Stayed in one of their hotel-style rooms in the main lodge the night before our flight back home. Glad I asked for a water view, although it was low tide. The room was small but used space creatively. The in room coffee service was subpar than most, offering only instant coffee. At first, we wondered if the proximity to the airport would make it noisy, but although we periodically saw planes upon a close approach, it turned out not to be an issue. The accommodation is located in a very pleasant residential neighborhood on a point of land along the water. It has a walking/biking path that looks to be very popular. It provided me with an opportunity to go out for a pleasant walk to watch the sunset. I was disappointed that advertised shuttle service to/from the airport was not available as their shuttle was being repaired. We took advantage of the onsite restaurant to have dinner, which more than met our needs.

Room tip: We were glad to have a water view

Dear nmsmaine

Thanks for your great review/feedback, we're delighted that you enjoyed your one night stay.

It was good to read that the hotel proximity to the airport, with aircraft coming and going, did not disturb your enjoyment of your stay. The local neighbourhood is indeed a very pleasant area to wander to admire the sea, the sunset and the mountains in the distance across the water. Please accept my apologies that our shuttle van was out of action due to maintenance requirements, I do hope this did not inconvenience you too much.

I hope you journey home was a pleasant one, and we hope to see you back again one day, perhaps for a longer stay - (in which case, you might want to book a summerhouse cottages as they feature nespresso machines!)

Warm regards

Stayed here for three nights. The apartments are well equipped and clean. We where provided with a good cot for our young baby. The big issue is with the tour buses that park right outside your apartment. They are noisy and the apartments are not well insulated, so the noise comes straight through. We even had one turn up at 1053pm. When I spoke to the hotel staff on check out they didn't seem particularly concerned or interested in addressing this issue.

What a find. The complex of rooms are reminiscent of an English village. The restaurant menus are a bit limited but there is a pub across the street with good “pub” food. Beds are comfortable and the showers are hot. The bedrooms are up a steep flight of stairs.

Hi there RandyV545

Thanks for your review, we're delighted that you thought the hotel "a good find" - great to know that you found your bed comfortable (always a bonus when away from home), and showers nice and hot. Not all our bedrooms are upstairs, we do have some rooms with downstairs bedrooms - any guests for whom stairs are difficult should request a down stairs bedroom when making their accommodation request.

We're a little surprised that you thought our restaurant, The Monaco Kitchen, has a 'limited' menu, but glad you enjoyed your dining experience across the road.

Once again, thanks for your review - it's much appreciated.

Warm regards
Nick, on behalf of the entire team at the Grand Mercure Nelson Monaco
