Super location just outside Nelson. Rooms functional but all too dark. Needs a refurbishment to bring it up to date. Cutlery and glasses in the room don’t match all a bit of a notch potch. Staff very friendly and helpful. With some tlc could be excellent.

Dear davidmI7842NY

Thanks for your review/feedback, it's much appreciated.

You'll be pleased to know, as are we, that we have recently begun a programme of rooms refurbishment which includes new and improved lighting, new furniture, fixtures and fittings and a repaint. This refurbishment is underway, however it will take us some time to roll this out across all our rooms, but once completed we're confident it will address the issues you mention. (Although, I'm not sure if glassware and cutlery are on the list).

Once again, thanks again for your review.

Warm regards
Nick, on behalf of the entire team at the Grand Mercure Nelson Monaco

Stayed in one of their hotel-style rooms in the main lodge the night before our flight back home. Glad I asked for a water view, although it was low tide. The room was small but used space creatively. The in room coffee service was subpar than most, offering only instant coffee. At first, we wondered if the proximity to the airport would make it noisy, but although we periodically saw planes upon a close approach, it turned out not to be an issue. The accommodation is located in a very pleasant residential neighborhood on a point of land along the water. It has a walking/biking path that looks to be very popular. It provided me with an opportunity to go out for a pleasant walk to watch the sunset. I was disappointed that advertised shuttle service to/from the airport was not available as their shuttle was being repaired. We took advantage of the onsite restaurant to have dinner, which more than met our needs.

Room tip: We were glad to have a water view

Dear nmsmaine

Thanks for your great review/feedback, we're delighted that you enjoyed your one night stay.

It was good to read that the hotel proximity to the airport, with aircraft coming and going, did not disturb your enjoyment of your stay. The local neighbourhood is indeed a very pleasant area to wander to admire the sea, the sunset and the mountains in the distance across the water. Please accept my apologies that our shuttle van was out of action due to maintenance requirements, I do hope this did not inconvenience you too much.

I hope you journey home was a pleasant one, and we hope to see you back again one day, perhaps for a longer stay - (in which case, you might want to book a summerhouse cottages as they feature nespresso machines!)

Warm regards
Nick, on behalf of the entire team at the Grand Mercure Nelson Monaco

Stayed here for three nights. The apartments are well equipped and clean. We where provided with a good cot for our young baby. The big issue is with the tour buses that park right outside your apartment. They are noisy and the apartments are not well insulated, so the noise comes straight through. We even had one turn up at 1053pm. When I spoke to the hotel staff on check out they didn't seem particularly concerned or interested in addressing this issue.

Dear MRHAHH

Thank you for your review/feedback following your recent stay, it was great to read that you found your accommodation clean and well equipped.

Please accept our apologies for the noise you experience from tour buses. Your review has highlighted an issue that we will be discussing with the tour bus operators, drivers and guides, it appears some of them are not sticking to the protocols and processes that are in place and we will be working with them to address this. Once again, our apologies for the noise you experienced, we do hope it did not totally spoil your experience staying with us.

Warn regards

What a find. The complex of rooms are reminiscent of an English village. The restaurant menus are a bit limited but there is a pub across the street with good “pub” food. Beds are comfortable and the showers are hot. The bedrooms are up a steep flight of stairs.

Hi there RandyV545

Thanks for your review, we're delighted that you thought the hotel "a good find" - great to know that you found your bed comfortable (always a bonus when away from home), and showers nice and hot. Not all our bedrooms are upstairs, we do have some rooms with downstairs bedrooms - any guests for whom stairs are difficult should request a down stairs bedroom when making their accommodation request.

We're a little surprised that you thought our restaurant, The Monaco Kitchen, has a 'limited' menu, but glad you enjoyed your dining experience across the road.

Once again, thanks for your review - it's much appreciated.

Warm regards

Unfortunately this place caters for the large bus parties and one night stays so the staff appear complacent. We booked a 1bedroom cottage with spa specifically as it listed a washer dryer in the cottage. On check in we discovered that this was out of order as were a lot of the other cottages. We were directed to the communal machines with a shrug of the shoulders and a promise the engineer would be out the next day. Only one communal machine was in working order and with 2 large bus parties booked in , demand outsripped the services. Needless to say 15 dollars later and 3 days, nobody had repaired or even attempted to repair the machines. Another shrug of the shoulders from reception. Breakfast was poor.Better staying in town.

Hi there riponcitygirl

Thanks for your review/feedback, our sincere apologies that the washer/dryer was out of action in your accommodation (and also one in the guest laundry - this is news to me), a situation made worse because of high demand to use the machines.

My apologies also that neither the breakfast, nor the service you experienced from our staff meet your expectations, I've passed your feedback on to our General Manager.

Like the other large hotels in Nelson city, many of our guests/tourists arrive on coaches, we appreciate their regular business and the income that comes from their stays - we value their business in the same way we value the business of our independent guests/travellers. Both are welcome, we do however regret that on occasions, as happened during your visit, it puts pressure on some of the resources and facilities of the hotel. Our apologies for the inconvenience experienced.

Warm regards Nick, on behalf of the entire team at the Grand Mercure Nelson Monaco
