“Unique old English style with modern con”
4 of 5 bubbles Reviewed March 3, 2009

We stayed here for 2 nights, in a hotel room (you could also book one-bedroom or two-bedroom cottages). Our room was quite nice with a little courtyard. While the courtyard was not 'private' as it's just one small pond away from the main road, we felt good sitting there in the sun sipping a juice. The complex was quite big, with its own restaurant and jeweller. Very nicely landscaped gardens. The location was ok - max 5 min drive from the Nelson airport. We didn't really notice how close it is to the airport as it's not a busy airport, and I don't think they have early morning or late evening flights. It's about 5 min drive to Nelson city or the beach, so pretty handy if you have a car. The inlet in front of the property is not that attractive when it's low tide, but in the morning (at high tide) it's quite nice.

Room was nicely done, and enough space for 2 people (much more generous than European hotel rooms!) The toilet is very modern and reasonably spacious. Shower was ok.

Staff were friendly and helpful. The only thing we found that was not that satisfying was the bed - it was way too soft for our liking. But if you like soft beds then this is probably a plus!

There are a lot of accomodation choices in Nelson. While I might not come back next time (as we would most likely want a beach front holiday home at the next visit) I would certainly recommend this property for someone that has a rental car, and enjoys something different.

what a great find, a relaxed hotel 10 mins from nelson centre (so you need a car)

lovely swimming pool and breakfasts are really good in the Orangery restaurant

can do massages here as well and they are really good value - book ahead though as they can be busy

washing facilities are available

we had a cottage/1 bedroom place and it felt like our own house, you can see them on their website

staff were all great, difficult to fault our stay

This was a lovely place to stay for a few nights. We had an upstairs studio apartment with kitchenette. It was quiet even with two full coachs of tourists in house. the rooms were of a very high standard with a lovely king size bed. The Orangerie Restaurant was very good with service comparable to the top silver service restaurants we have dine in world wide. It is right on the end of the airport runway, however, we could only hear the planes when we were outside. In the apartment there was no noise. It is quite away from the centre of Nelson if you have a car not a problem. I was offered a shuttle service to town leaving at 10.00am returning at 3.00pm . There is an in house beauty spa and hairdresser + a Jeweller and a heated swimming pool. None of which we used but all looked top standard.

We required a place for 5 adults while in Nelson, NZ and found this Hotel in our AAA travel book. We went on line to read the reviews before booking and because they were so mixed we were unsure. Fortunately we were close enough that we could go and look at what they had to offer before booking wherein we were pleasantly surprised. They took the time to show us a unit that would be similar to what we would be getting and we made our reservation. They are trying to create a little english village and did so nicely. The townhouse style accommodations that we had were very comfortable and cozy. The kitchen was reasonably well equipped. The place was spotless. The pool area was very pleasant. We would recommend this as a great place to stay either for couples or families that want a place to stay while exploring Nelson and surrounding areas.

We stayed for three nights in early January 2009. The hotel complex is fairly new and is designed to look like an English village complete with pedestrian streets and a small village green. It is sited just across the road from the waterfront of the Waimea Inlet at Monaco. It is a relaxing and tranquil setting. Our accommodation was a one bedroom apartment and was furnished to a very high standard including outdoor furniture outside the French doors, overlooking the green. Breakfast was included in the price and was a good buffet selection.

The hotel is not in the centre of the town, but is within easy walking distance to a small suburban shopping centre. A cycle-way/walkway runs nearby and cycles are available at the hotel. It is possible to take the cycle-way right into the centre of Nelson or, in the other direction, to Richmond. There is plenty of free on-site parking for motor vehicles.

  • Liked — The ambience, the jazz in the afternoons (festival was on).
  • Disliked — The internet service.

We stayed for one night in the Hotel, not the apartments. The quality of the hotel is very good. The location is about 7 kilometers south of Nelson. It is a nice quiet spot at night time.

The beds we had were very comfortable. Bathroom is very upmarket. Have no complaints at all.

A very enjoyable stay.

Excellent quality boutique hotel with a great style of accommodation. Good location for exploring the National Parks and surrounding areas. Although, the hotel is a 15 - 20 minute taxi ride into the centre of Nelson.
