Went to a couple of shows here last year - fabulous building, beautifully restored. Worth leaving your seat at half-time to admire the architectural details and to get a yummy treat!

“Oamaru Silk Centre”
Reviewed October 27, 2012

Opposite the Opera House at 119 Thames Street Oamaru is a very different attraction however when your partner, who runs a dressmaking academy spends nearly three hours in 'seventh heaven' and bought too much material to add to our luggage ( $50 postage sent it on the way to Australia) you know you have found an untapped attraction for this lovely city with its innumerable historic buildings. With the 'throw away' society.dress making has declined however there is still a solid core which prefers to make their clothing with 'love'. At OSC they also find the owner with over 4 decades of dedication to his trade.
As a former regional tourist director I can only say 'Oamaru let every one know about this hidden treasure"

“Swanky, sophisticated joint with great down-to-earth town hall service”
Reviewed July 11, 2012

Clearly the pride and joy of Oamaru's civic culture, the Opera House runs a box office, bar and cafe. Mainstream theatre shows that tend to be on the expensive side give the impression of an under-utilised facility. But if you save up for a special night out, the Opera House will deliver.
