Small rooms, but clean and has everything you really need. Mad that wi-fi is not included in the 21st century. Anyway, it's actually walk-able (10 mins) to the airport, but if you have large bags you can grab a shuttle bus that comes past right outside. There are a number of shops and restaurants in the immediate area which is good as you don't have to go far to get some dinner. Also, highly recommend exploring the parkland towards Rainbow Springs and the adventure-golf centre. Lots of wildlife spotted, so close to the airport - makes a nice change.

The rooms are clean, modern but super basic.

The laundry was out of order

There is no phone in the rooms and the payphone only takes phone cards...which aren't sold at the hotel or near by.

No fridge either

Wifi is $20!! crazy stuff.

All up not good enough for $75 a night.

Despite the close distance it is not walking distance to the airport (unless you have no bags). So you will have to pay $11 per person round trip on a bus.

I was on a layover to Rarotonga so needed somewhere to rest my head between arriving on Friday and leaving on Saturday, and the Ibis Budget is perfect for this kind of stay. I should point out that once before, in a similar situation I’d elected to stay further away from the airport and that was a huge mistake – I spent over an hour getting to my digs, had to get up early to make it back and because no buses were running I forked out for a taxi, needless to say it was a lesson I wasn’t keen to learn over, so I looked for somewhere closer.

The Ibis is a 10 minute walk from the Domestic terminal (allow another 10 minutes to get to the international terminal) but it is definitely walking distance on dedicated footpaths in a well lit street so no safety concerns.

Its directly across from a 24 hour supermarket and some fast food outlets so very handy for anything you’ve forgotten. While its very new it isn’t a quality build, so noise can travel between rooms, but being partially ‘wired’ because of all the flying I wore earplugs and settled myself in for a nights sleep – a good nights sleep would be waiting elsewhere, my need was specifically to be near the airport.

The rooms are on the smaller side, the furnishings typically of what you’d find at a hostel – the bathroom was small but clean. There was a TV which was fixed to the wall at a curious angle but it worked. The air con was a challenge becauseonce you’ve set it to the desired temperature it goes back to the room temperature as it is and starts cooling down – so you think its not taken your setting, but it has – its just there is no indication that its working towards the desired temperature.

The bar downstairs – outstanding. Really, really good – any hotel should be proud of a bar like that, it was a bit tiki lounge with the retro furniture and had an outdoor area – I’d recommend having a drink there while you are staying. I don’t think it has a restaurant, just some vending machines and a small dining area.

Would I stay there again? Yes absolutely. It was brilliant being able to get up and head back to the airport without drama, the price was quite realistic and reception was friendly – the lack of noise insulation could be a bother for the sensitive sleeper, so make sure you have earplugs or alternatively buy some at Countdown across the road.

Room Tip: The aircon is confusing - it displays the current room temperature, then when you set a desired room...

We booked at the Ibis because we were on a brief stopover between flights, but dont be fooled if taxi drivers tell you it is only a 2 minute walk from the airport. We would suggest you take the shuttle as it is more like a 15 minute walk, which is quite a way when you have a bit of luggage.
Reception staff were friendly and efficient and we got our room keys and went up. The room was small with just a bed, television and small ensuite. Which was fine as we were away again the next morning. Everything was clean and tidy. We wanted to have a coffee, and there was a machine downstairs but this was out of order, Reception told us there was only a staff kitchen and we could not use that, As it was after 6pm any shops nearby were closed, so we had to wait for morning to get a hot drink. We paid the extra $10 and got breakfast, which was buffet style toast or cereal (only about 3 choices). There was a jug to make a hot drink, this also was not working, but breakfast staff got us hot water from the kitchen when we complained.
Over all the hotel is fine for a stopover, clean and tidy and there is a bus that comes to the door for airport pickups ($5/person). $89 including breakfast for two people was good value for money.

good location from the airport, it was approx 10 minute walk, easily found, close to supermarket and other shops, room basic but clean and comfortable, communal eating/dining area, breakfast available to buy, good value for money!

Room Tip: ideal for airport
