“It was OK.”
Reviewed February 23, 2014 via mobile

We hoped to find a selection of seafood on the menu but we didn't. To start with we had natural oysters, but they got the order wrong and we got Kilpatrick which we sent back (we really didn't get can apology). Hubby had spaghetti marinara, it tasted great even the sauce which was tomato based. I had chilli prawn pasta with tomato base sauce, unfortunately it had too much tomato sauce (the ketchup kind) in it. Both pastas were over cooked. The servings were huge, that's what makes up the cost I guess!

Reviewed February 18, 2014 via mobile

We had a wonderful meal here the service was spot on the food could not be faulted. It was nice to sit and eat in what was the old Post Office a building reaped in history. I would recommend it to others to try.

“Divine find in Portland”
Reviewed February 8, 2014

Stunning views and service topped off an exquisite, perfectly cooked meal of eye fillet with the most scrumptious veges. The service was second to none. Thank you !!!

“Doesn’t really justify the atmosphere or price”
Reviewed October 23, 2013

Although the name makes it sound like some sort of pub, this place does have the air of somewhere fancier. The atmosphere is a little classy but still accessible although not quite as much as I would have liked. Service and prices are the same – a little bit higher than they can justify really and it felt odd.

The food comes in large portions and one should be wary of ordering starters as a result. The quality doesn’t quite match it though – some dishes were really good but too many were OK and again the pricing of them didn’t help that feeling.

Worth a visit if you are in Portland for a while, but there are better options around.

“Excellent Portland restaurant”
Reviewed October 5, 2013

Fergies Café & Wine Bar is one of the few restaurants in Portland we checked out during a walk around on the Saturday morning of our two day stay. It had pretty good reviews and the menu had exactly what we wanted. We booked a table for two. Even though it was a Saturday night the restaurant was fairly quiet (whether the fact that it was AFL Grand Final night that had some impact is unknown). There were three main waiting staff members who interacted with us. Two of the staff had appropriate dress for their function, however one of the staff, it may have been the manager considering the ages of the other two staff members, was wearing jeans. This was the only negative I can think of for the night.
We were treated with complimentary bread and dip while we considered the menu, although we had already decided what we were going to order. My wife had Pork Belly for entrée while I had Oysters Kilpatrick. We were served in a timely manner and both entrees were delicious.
Our mains came out not too early, not too late. My wife had Rack Of Lamb and I had Duck. These mains were extremely well presented and were also very delicious. The prices of the meals were quite reasonable for a restaurant of this class at about $30.
We had been seated next to a window and we saw the sun go down and dusk arrive while sipping a very nice red – a Barossa, Majella’s ‘The Musician”.
As far as food and service is concerned I have no hesitation in recommending Fergies Café & Wine Bar for dinner when visiting Portland.
