Owner description: Located only ten minutes from Portland upon the rugged cliffs of Cape Nelson, the Cape Nelson Lighthouse precinct comprises the 35 meter tall lighthouse, the cosy Isabella's cafe, and two exquisitely renovated assistant lighthouse keeper's cottages available as accommodation. These historic buildings have been elegantly restored and now comprise two separate two-bedroom cottages. The cottages are ideal for a secluded couple's get away, families, or groups! The precinct is located within Cape Nelson State Park and is surrounded by spectacular views, excellent walking tracks, and tours of the historic lighthouse run daily.Isabella's cafe, located in the old stables, offers morning and afternoon tea and gourmet lunches daily. Each cottage includes two bedrooms with queen sized beds, a fully equipped kitchen, dining area and lounge room with TV, DVD and an open fire place. All properties include free Wi-Fi, reverse cycle air conditioning and breakfast of cereal, milk, eggs, bacon, toast and condiments, as well as tea and coffee. About the area:Cape Nelson is a well known whale spotting area - observe from the cliffs or climb to the top of the lighthouse to spot southern wright whales in the middle of the year and blue whales in summer months! Dolphins and seals are sometimes spotted in the water as well! As we are located on the Great South West Walk, we are surrounded by kilometers of walking tracks through bush, beaches and cliffs. The area is rich in native wildlife, including kangaroos and wallabies, echidnas, koalas, and is close to Australia's only mainland Gannet breeding colony. The beaches around Portland are also well known for having great surf for all levels at any time of year, so make sure to bring boards and wetsuits!

“Worth the drive”
Reviewed April 7, 2013 via mobile

A 20 min drive from Portland, it's well worth it. Wild scenery, and lots of history about the lighthouse...unfortunately it & the cafe were closed whe we were there but there is still enough to read and see without it being open. The view is fantastic...you also get to see the wind farm up close, which I liked

“Mum's 80th luxury getaway!”
Reviewed March 19, 2013

My mother wanted a special treat away for her 80th birthday. Portland she said.
I found these cottages on the trip advisor site and myself, 2 sisters and mum were not disappointed. We booked both cottages for the long weekend and adored the wild nature of the environment and the luxury of the accommodation. Steve -the cafe and site manager was very generous and charming. A total bonus was the sites's connection to the film 'South Solitary'- beautiful film, amazing part of the world!! Generous breakfast supplied and cafe for lunch. Excellent kitchens in each cottage for self catering. Drove from here to Royal Mail Hotel, Dunkeld for slap up birthday lunch on the way home to Melbs. Great time had by all!!

“You can even climb it!”
Reviewed January 7, 2013

Great views and easy to manage walks. The cafe keeps odd hours but the food is reasonable and you can even climb to the top for even better views.

“Bucket List Tick”
Reviewed November 12, 2012

This was my second visit back to the lighthouse, this time to stay in one of the Cottages as a weekend treat away. I was not disappointed! What great facilities, terrific hosts and a generous breakfast included. Nothing like a relax on a leather couch with a glass of wine in front of an open fire in an historic building after a scenic walk around the coast line.
Well worth the drive!!
