Located on the shores of Upper Spencer Gulf with spectacular views to the ancient Flinders Ranges, the Garden showcases a diverse collection of arid zone habitats in a picturesque setting of more than 250 hectares. As well as its stunning selection of arid zone plants, the garden is also home to more than 100 species of birds, and has a diverse population of repltiles, mammals and insects. It features a children's animal discovery trail, AridSmart display gardens where you can see how to use the plants in you home garden, and a visitor centre, which incorporates the Bluebush Cafe and the AridSmart Gift and Garden Shop. The cafe has mouthwatering menu choices and you can't go past the Quandong Smoothies. The AridSmart Gift and Garden Shop is where you can purchase a piece of the garden to take home. “Fantastic for birds”
Reviewed February 21, 2014

This is a lovely place to visit for the flora but because of the varied planting it's absolutely amazing for bird life. The walks are easy and well marked, taking in some nice views and giving you a chance to see lots of native plants and trees.
The staff in the centre are friendly and knowledgable about local wildlife.
The cafe serves very nice coffee and cake that is far too nice to be resisted.
We had a great half day here, returning after the centre had closed to just sit in the garden and watch the birds enjoying a drink from the small pool.

“Brilliant and utterly unexpected botanic garden”
Reviewed February 1, 2014 via mobile

Port Augusta's reputation as a place to get through as quickly as possible is changing very slowly, if at all. But this is a five star attraction that deserves all the visitors it can get. There are three walks to illustrate different arid habitats and different plants. There are also model dry climate gardens, a plant stall, shop and cafe. Because we were returning to England we couldn't buy seeds, but I wished I could. The staff know their garden and were very helpful. I can't recommend this too highly. If you're in the area, don't miss it.

“Extremely helpful”
Reviewed January 29, 2014

I rang the Australian Arid Lands Botanic Garden about some advice on selection of plants. They were quite outstanding. Not only did they make excellent suggestions and give great support, they helped me establish an overall plan and timeline plus they put me in touch with helpful websites to use in conjunction with their ideas. Great service. Many thanks.

“Nicewalk around”
Reviewed January 5, 2014

We stop at most botanic gardens while travelling the country, so this one is was no exception. Nice for a walk in the afternoon and is located on the left hand side as you enter into Port Augusta along the Stuart highway from the north.

“Despite My Misgivings - Do Visit!”
Reviewed December 12, 2013

Have never been a fan of the dry country. When visiting family last week I was surprised to enjoy a early morning walk along the shore at the top end of the gulf. It was then suggested that we visit Arid Lands Botanic Garden which was walking distance from where I was staying. Agreed more from politeness but despite my misgivings and preconceptions has a most enjoyable time. Loved the Stuart Peas and the other native trees - some of which were in flower. Well worth the visit and as another reviewer said the flies are a bonus. The cafe served good coffee and food.
