Owner description: The Australian Arid Lands Botanic Garden was established in 1993 to research, conserve and promote the wider appreciation of Australia’s arid zone flora. Located on the shores of Upper Spencer Gulf with spectacular views to the ancient Flinders Ranges, the Garden showcases a diverse collection of arid zone habitats in a picturesque setting of more than 250 hectares. As well as its stunning selection of arid zone plants, the garden is also home to more than 100 species of birds, and has a diverse population of repltiles, mammals and insects. It features a children's animal discovery trail, AridSmart display gardens where you can see how to use the plants in you home garden, and a visitor centre, which incorporates the Bluebush Cafe and the AridSmart Gift and Garden Shop. The cafe has mouthwatering menu choices and you can't go past the Quandong Smoothies. The AridSmart Gift and Garden Shop is where you can purchase a piece of the garden to take home. Its range of AridSmart plants will not only reduce your water bills but will bring the beauty of Australia's plants into your garden.

“Fresh Meals”
Reviewed August 10, 2013

Lovely freshly prepared and bush tucker themed meals. Can get very busy on weekends and days like Mothers day - pays to book. Haven't been around the walks but highly recommend visiting for a healthy lunch or sweet treat for morning / afternoon tea.

“Great facilities and excellent gardens”
Reviewed July 16, 2013

We had scored the countyside at Flinders Ranges and Coober Pedy for the stunning Sturt Desert Pea which is the symbol of South Australia. Lots of these adjoining the Visitors Centre. Lunch is not available after 2.30 pm - we just snuck in... Good tucker.
The gardens includes a number of mini display garden which show you what are possible plantings vs annual water consumption. A great deal to discover here. Also check out the lookout over the head of Spencers Gulf to the Flinders Ranges.

“A really restful place to visit”
Reviewed June 11, 2013

We visited this garden which had been refreshed by recent rain, so most of the plants had new shoots and the smell of the native plants was great. After visiting, we went onto the viewing point above Red Banks and saw the most beautiful colours from the sunset on the Flinders Ranges opposite.

Glad you got to enjoy the sunset from the Redbanks lookout. Since your visit it has continued to rain and we are looking forward to a fantastic spring, with lots of annuals sure to be in full bloom. Thankyou for your review and we hope to see you back at the garden.
