“Beware! This hostel has a two class system!”
Reviewed June 28, 2011

My experience at this hostel sucked. The kitchen is absolutely pathetic. If you're in certain rooms you get the nasty kitchen, but if you're in different rooms you're given a key to a different kitchen. It seems like some of the hostel is new and some old, but you don't have access to it all... I really don't understand it, but I think that's why there's such varying reviews for this place. There are better options in Hervey Bay.

Great place for a relaxing break, free breakfast, great Pool area, good food and nice bar run by super people. If in Hervey Bay area this is place to stay. Good advice given on tours with great local knowledge. And its a YHA so you get good clean accomadation and service. Social nights arranged on site. Booked three nights stayed for seven.
Camping allowed on site also.

A fairly good way to the Fraser island, close to the woolworth (about 800m). Tidy kitchen with full-equipped kitchenware and clean amenities. But the reception wasn't friendly to us. He is always busy on his computer and seems not like to reply our enquiries.

We were really impressed with the hervey bay yha; the staff were friendly, knowledgeable and really helpful.
The facilities were great, nice pool to relax next to. The cherry on the cake was getting upgraded to a superb private cabin. Highly recommended and we would definitely go back!

Due to bad weather, we had to extend our stay for a few days to the YHA Colonial Village, as we really wanted to go whale watching.

The camping ground is ideally located, at a walking distance from the pier where the whale watching tours start. Very clean, with a swimming pool, a nice bar, with a free buffet breakfast. Uber friendly staff.

Showers and toilets were very clean. Might be the best camping ground in our whole trip, and nearly the cheapest.

They do also propose cabins and dorms that looked nice.

Would definitely go there again if I had the opportunity to go back to this amazing country :o)

We got a pickup from the Greyhound stop, which was needed as the hostels is in the middle of nowhere. Nearest shop is Woolworths, a 20 minute walk. The woman (owner?) at the reception was very helpful and friendly.

The whole hostel is a bit outdated. The rooms were horrible, it was very small, damp and had a smell like urine. The bathroom were not clean. The kitchen was small and also not very clean. We decided to try the food they offer. Which was also a disappointment, it was too expensive, not enough and not tasty. The common area and the pool are nice.

Arrived at the Greyhound terminal where the yha picked us up quite a long way back to the hostel. We got to the hostel and it looked very out backish looking went through to the Loung area where we had flavoured water and a few slices of orange which was sweet!!!
Checked in at reception with Donna she was so funny got on great with her over the 4 days we spent there. Checked into a 8 mix dorm for $20 but realised that for an extra $7 pp we could upgrade to the twin which was great. The beds were comfy and there was a ceiling fan which was good kept the room very cool.
Had a slight problem with the room so went to the reception and they were extremely helpful moving us into another room nothing was too much for the staff.

The pool / spa area was lovely very clean and not too busy there during the days even tho we had fantastic weather.

This hostel is an excellent base for Fraser island and definatley recommended to everyone wanting to stay in Hervey Bay!.!.!.!
