Found out about Hot Rock Steak night by chance so thought we would give it a go. The restaurant is part of the RSL and is decorated in an historical theme and is full of memorabilia and a mural wall of Narrabri in days gone by. We ordered the steaks which came very quickly and of course carried on cooking in front if us. They were fantastic, as was the accompanying vegetables, sauce and baked potato. As we were eating sound and visual effects played around us and the rain literally started to fall off the veranda (totally intentional), great effect! We finished off the evening with great deserts of Apple and berry crumble which were freshly cooked on ordering. The staff were really pleasant and attentive and all together we had a totally enjoyable experience

We have eaten here twice. Once in May 2013 and the other time in September 2013.

On both occasions the meals were very ordinary. I probably could have done better myself, and I'm no cook!

Our meal in September was particularly bad. The disappointing $2/slice garlic bread was followed by the "Roast of the Day", comprising a slab of very fatty, gristly meat covering a few badly cooked vegetables, swimming in a sea of gravy.

We had intentions of an extended dinner before we arrived, but quickly decided not to test our luck with the desserts, and left.

The atmosphere there has potential, the meals are provided quite quickly, and the staff are friendly, but the food quality and preparation is not very good.

We'd not go there again.

Lovely food and friendly staff. The restaurant had character and the mural on the wall was fantastic. Would highly recommend this place for dinner.

Recommended wine; a merlot was watery and bland. Baked oysters were raw. Main courses cold. As I was still hungry as i couldn't eat starters I ordered a lime and lemon tart which was probably bought in but a lovely finish to a mediocre meal. Never again!

We had a great meal here at prices well below that of Sydney. The special effects were somewhat tame but we were later told that many of them had been turned off as young diners were sometimes frightened by them. Well worth a visit.
