Astelia Lodge

Very many thanks to Andrew and Mandy for a lovely relaxing last two days of our trip. The weather was not kind to us but Mandy suggested places to go and things to do, we enjoyed the area in spite of Weather!
Astelia Lodge is a delight with stunning views in a very peaceful location but not too far to Rotorua for all activities and evening meals. Andrew cooked us a lovely meal on our last night and it was superb, one of the best of our trip, thank you Andrew, you are a star. We so enjoyed having dinner with you both, also thanks for great breakfasts.
The accommodation is delightful in every way, great comfy bed, sweet little kitchen with everything we could have needed and the most lovely bathroom with great locally made toiletries.
Our hosts easy friendly manner made us feel very much at home but always giving us our privacy.
Thanks for everything to you both from Elaine and Ross

We stayed with Mandy and Andrew during a family holiday around New Zealand in January and chose Astelia Lodge as our up-market B&B experience, far from the smells of (interesting!) Rotorua but close enough to those attractions and the airport to be very handy.
Astelia Lodge is a small enterprise run by a charming couple and with just two upmarket guest rooms on a large "small" farm it seems they have done well not to overcommit to the B&B, so that every set of guests are well cared for. This is a new Lockwood building with a gorgeous outlook over fields to a dramatic escarpment. The rooms are an interesting blend of country comfort and city chic. Our teens were very happy in their suite at one end of the building, and we felt equally private and cared for in our room at the other end of a central kitchen and common lounge room (the hosts area really). Each fo the suites have a tea and coffee making area a small fridgeand wardrobe area behind the main bed/TV/sitting area. Each room features a large luxurious shower room and comfy giant bed, outdoor patio and modern decor. The only difference between these two suites is the fact one is a twin bed setup, the other a double. Andrew and Mandy are from the UK originally so had a great way of making us feel at home without crowding us, and they are both real foodies and very good in the kitchen! Dinner is available and so one night we sat down to an excellent up-market roast lamb and blue berry cake dinner (our own wine) which still felt home-made rather than mass produced as these meals can be in a restaurant. Mandy and Andrew have added various animals to the property for themselves and their guests to enjoy. After each day of hard sightseeing and thermal pool visits, we appreciated the peace and quiet with a glass of wine or cup of tea while our teens ran off to feed Elliot the goat and pet the two donkeys. Plus they have a charming dog, Daisy, who made us all feel most at home and wriggled with delight at the prospect of guests. Altogether Astelia Lodge proved a great change from a regular lodge or hotel (our hotsts gave much better advice on local attractions than you' d get from some of the inexperienced concierges at a standard family hotel). Astelia also offers many five star touches in the standard of bedding, furniture and scrumptious yet simple country style cooked breakfasts. The drive to Rotorua takes about 20 minutes, but it a lovely part of the country side to view from the car window. And it is close to the airport too, where we picked up our car and headed straight to Astelia Lodge, no trouble. Would certainly stay again at a place where you feel more like a friend than a paying guest.

We stayed two nights at Astelia lodge and had an amazing time!

Andrew and Mandy are the loveliest hosts and did everything to make us feel comfortable. It really felt like we were staying with friends. We loved playing frisbee with Daisy the dog and we could even feed the alpaca’s.

Astelia lodge has two luxury suites. The wood gives a warm touch to the room and the fridge was filled with complimentary wine, fruit and njam njam cookies ! The view from the room is amazing! There is a separate guest entrance but you are always welcome in the living room to ask some advice or just have a nice chat.

Astelia lodge is truly a little slice of heaven and we highly recommend it to everyone ! It is a perfect base for visiting Rotorua and the surrounding geothermical parks.

Andrew and Mandy, thank you so much for everything. It was just perfect ! We hope, in the future, we can visit New Zealand once more and will definitely stay with you again…

If you're looking for luxury, tranquility and friendly hospitality, then look no further. This very special B&B is just 15 minutes' drive from the centre of Rotorua and looks out on to the Horuhoru Bluffs. Each light and airy suite is luxuriously fitted with a gigantic comfy bed you just sink in to, a high spec bathroom with walk-in shower and has the most amazing view. And just listen to the silence!

The hosts are friendly and welcoming without being intrusive. They want to share their delightful home with you. Don't miss out!

Situated in tranquil grounds just 15mins from centre of Rotorua is this luxury B&B. It's like Grand Designs meets The Good Life - v high-spec modern house with lovely home cooking. We enjoyed meeting the various animals - goat, dog, cat, pukekos & a family of quails! The hosts couldn't do enough for us and made us feel very welcome in their home. Can't wait to go back!!
