My husband and I stayed her for just one night (the last of our South Island road trip), prior to catching the Whale Watch tour the following morning. Raewyn and Darrell could not have been friendlier or more accommodating or more helpful... The epitome of what hosts should be. They directed us to the seal colony, gave us bang on dinner recommendations (Green Dolphin was divine!), arranged a taxi for us, tried to help us sort our breakfast plans in the morning, and were honestly just lovely to chat with. All in all, we probably only spoke with them for 30 - 45 minutes altogether but they were just the loveliest couple you could ever imagine.

We did notice the road noise initially but it was not at all an issue for us overnight. I'm sure some people are more sensitive to these things than others but we had a great sleep.

As another reviewer mentioned, they obviously take pride in their property as it was immaculate and the units themselves were fantastic. It was just my husband and I but, if you are travelling with another couple, I'm sure you'd be quite happy/comfortable in one of the cottages - a very comfortabe queen bed plus two twins in a separate bedroom, adequate bathroom facilities, cute little kitchen, etc., etc., etc. I honestly wish we'd been able to stay longer. Admittedly, not the closest place to town but, even with the cost of a taxi for dinner and back factored in to our stay, it was well worth it. And if you're not having any wine (as my husband and I were that evening) then the drive into town is just a few minutes. Proximity to catch the Whale Watch cruise is also no problem with a vehicle. Enjoy!

This was our last stop after 3 weeks touring the South Island. I have stayed in cottages before, and this was by far the most spacious. And imacculately clean. The beds were very comfortable, and the mountain/farm views fantastic. The cottages are on the northern side of Kaikoura, so not really walking distance to town - which didnt matter as we had a car. The beach is a very short walk (not sure if its safe to swim there - but its great for some photos).

The owners obviously take immense pride in their property. The gardens were beautiful, the lawns manicured, and the cottage itself was cleaned to the highest standard each day. Also incredibly friendly hosts, nothing was too much trouble. Darryl was a real gentleman, even when my mother drove the wrong way around the loop road!! Tour bookings, recommendations, they were great. The rooms dont have Sky TV - but they have a huge selection of DVD's at reception (many recent releases). But this is Kaikoura, who has time for TV anyway? One of the most picturesque, relaxing and "chilled out" places I visited in New Zealand. I was blown away by the natural beauty and laid back feel of the area.

Each cottage has its own patch of lawn and gardens surrounding. There was a kids playground and trampoline, with a huge open grassed area for kids to run around. The cottages also had north-facing balconies with an outdoor setting to relax. We are definately going back to Kaikoura, and I will book well in advance to make sure I can stay here again. I can't rave highly enough about the hospitality, service and these well-priced cottages.

We stayed here for 2 nights and could have stayed a lot longer. We stayed in one of the cottages with amazing views of the snow capped mountains.

The cottage has 2 double beds, living and dinning area, kitchen and bathroom with a decking area to sit outside.

Great place to stay and so quiet. It was rainy when we stayed so the free DVD hire from recception was perfect.

Little to far to walk to town from here but only a 3 min drive. Walking distance to the beach.

A great place to stay

We couldn't fault this accommodation. Well laid out cottages which sleep four. Perfect for our overnight stop with another couple sharing, plus 4 other couples in other cottages. We arrived after 7.30pm and the owners were most helpful in recommending a restaurant, which we duly 'invaded' after 8.30 and were welcomed with open arms! The cottages were warm, double glazed and ours had a walk in shower (our prime prerequist). Would definitely stay here again, and will recommend to all travellers needed accommodation before or after a ferry trip (2hrs from Picton)

Fantastic place with wonderful owner, we stayed here so we could go whale watching. We we're not disappointed, we we're given a chalet at the front with amazing views towards the mountains. The standard of accommodation was excellent and great value for money, recommend getting the early whale watching trip as they often have to cancel the afternoon ones due to weather (advice given by the owner and it turned out to be true, luckily we listened) Also good range of dvds to borrow for free if you choose to stay in for the night.
Thank you for our wonderful stay :-)

Just spent 2 nights here and my partner and I both agreed staying at the Kaikoura Cottages were one of the highlights of our trip. The location, which is close to shops and restaurants and is also not far out of the township, was ideal as it is nearby the road north to the seal colony on the beach. The cottages are set in nice surroundings (beautiful view of snow-covered mountains in winter) with their own private lawn/garden, and at night there is no noise from the traffic whatsoever. The nightly price is extremely good value also.

The hosts of the cottages are very friendly and helpful and are only to happy to spend the time to talk about the local attractions which are worth seeing. The cottages are very roomy, clean and cosy with all the cooking facilities you would need for self-catering. There is also free access to a large and updated DVD collection which is great when spending the night in.

Can't recommend this place highly enough and it is without a doubt THE best place to stay when in Kaikoura.
