We had a room with great views in two directions (or it would have done had the weather been better) and it was very comfortable. The breakfast had different choices each morning which was a bit confusing and meant that it you liked something one morning it wasn’t there the next day. The hosts were welcoming and helpful with advice about the locality.

Thank you for your review. We are sorry you found our changing breakfast menus confusing. We like to give our guests choices for their breakfast because we do hear from some that they get sick of bacon and eggs every morning. We have 2 menus we alternate and each menu has 3 choices of cooked breakfasts.

Quentin and Jane are incredible people and hosts...we were warmly welcomed and given great recommendations for lunch, dinner and walks..oh and it was so wonderful to have breakfast in our room with the beautiful views. Thanks for the recommendation of Black Estate Winery, Jane, the lunch was very nice and the scenery was gorgeous..great place to stop on the way to Christchurch!

On arrival at Nikau Lodge we received a very warm welcome from our hosts, Jane & Quentin. Jane showed us to our room (we'd requested the Dolphin Room) which had fabulous views over Kaikoura Bay and the snow-capped mountains. The room & en suite were very well 'equipped' and the bed itself was very comfortable. Breakfast was excellent and made lunch totally unnecessary!! Our visit to Kaikoura came at the beginning of our trip to NZ and made for a really great start. Highly recommended.

Moving on from Christchurch on Day 3 of our stay in South Island, we stayed with Quentin and Jane for one night. Our room was extremely comfortable, with every mod con and lovely views over the town of Kaikura. Hospitality tray extended to wines and beer, whatever your predilection. Breakfast was a mixture of Continental and Full English, again, whatever you wanted. Quentin gave us lots of useful advice concerning where to stop on our journey north to Blenheim and I'm sure we would have missed the sight of the baby seals if he hadn't told us where to go. An altogether enjoyable time at this lovely place. Would go back if we had the opportunity.

Excellent B&B in Kaikoura. A short walk into the center of town. The owners are very accommodating - they picked me up at the train station and were very helpful with rescheduling my whale watch due to bad weather. Very highly recommended!!

We stayed at the Nikau for two nights, in mid-October. Our host, Quentin, picked us up at the train station and gave us an overview of the town on the way to the B&B. Upon arrival we met our other host, Jane. Our room was very comfortable and nicely decorated but the best part was the view - it looked out over the town, to the mountains and the ocean - beautiful! The guest refrigerator is stocked with beer and wine. The breakfast menu offered many options each morning and the food was delicious. One morning we had eggs benedict, the second morning it was a wonderful omelet. Having started our NZ journey in Christchurch, our stay at the Nikau was our first stop on our way to the Queen Charlotte track. We could not have asked for a better experience.

Room Tip: Two of the rooms face front, each room has big windows and great views.
