“Very relaxed atmosphere”
Reviewed July 31, 2012

We stayed with QNikau Lodge for one night when we were in New Zealand - Quentin and Jane are wonderful and lovely in every respect of the word. Quentin has such a fantastic sense of humor. The room was very comfortable with a stunning view of the mountains. Breakfast was delicous (the eggs Benedict was so yummy!) and I even learned how poached eggs are made. And, if you can, I would strongly suggest listening to a vocal performance from "Jack" - too funny. Our stay here was very relaxed and calming - and that is exactly what Quentin and Jane endeavor. We would definitely stay with them again if/when we visit Kaikoura again. Definitely. Thank you both (and to Jack, too!).

So pleased you felt relaxed at Nikau Lodge. Thanks for the photo, we think that you and Jack are the most photogenic! Hope the poached eggs are coming out well.

We were fortunate enough to have two very enjoyable evenings at the Nikau Lodge. Quentin and Jane provided excellent advice about dining spots in Kaikoura as well as activities. Their non-intrusive ability to make us feel welcome and relaxed was great. 'Jack' was a delight to play with! Thoroughly enjoyed every aspect of the stay and can highly recommend the cooked breakfasts!

We stayed at Nikau for just one night, and immediately felt very welcomed by Quentin and Jane.
Our room ("whale" room) was very comfortable and had a small "conservatory" - 2 chairs and a table with windows all round, where we enjoyed complimentary coffee. The house is situated high up and therefore you enjoy views over the town and to the stunning snow capped mountains in the distance. The bed was so comfortable and the pillows too!
The wi-fi was fast and free, and the breakfast consisted of help yourself cereals etc and hot and generous cooked selection.
We would not hesitate to stay at Nikau in the future.

Totally loved our night in the Seal Room at Nikau Lodge! Warm and genuine welcome from Quentin, Jane and the mighty Max. Wonderful view of the mountains and coastline and township of Kaikoura from our bedroom window. Very relaxed and homely atmosphere, lovely garden (you have to play fetch with Max!). Definitly recommend the warm waters of the spa pool, even on a chilly June night it was delightful to lay back and stare at the stars and the moon with the lovely nikau palm sillouette and a glass of bubbly!
Nikau Lodge is very much an affordable luxury.
Sincere thanks to both Jane and Quentin for a wonderful place to stay.

Room Tip: Seal and Dolphin Rooms have splendid views, all rooms of high quality and all other views from windo...

Thank you very much for the great review. We hear "not long enough" from a lot of our guests. Kaikoura is a fantastic destination and if travelers can stay 2 or even better 3 nights they can enjoy so much more of what it has to offer.

We loved our stay at the Nikau Lodge. Quentin and Jane couldn't do enough for us and it was nice to feel looked-after after a few nights of anonymous hotels. Quentin picked us up and dropped us off at the train station, and they helped us with our whale watching booking (which was rained off more than once). The views from the room and the patio were stunning, particularly with a glass of complimentary wine. Jack the dog was friendly and fun, and we got to do our laundry, which was very welcome. The breakfasts were superb, including the best Eggs Benedict my wife had during 3 weeks in NZ (with a lot of Eggs Benedict tested!). Comfortable rooms and great hospitality. Lovely.

We are glad you enjoyed your stay with us. We are happy to help out with tour bookings and our pick up service is complimentary. Our Eggs Benedict is popular, must be that special home-made sauce.

We arrived at Kaikoura just for the day, and it was so beautiful we decided to stay the night. We were fortunate to stop at the isite in Kaikoura and ask for information/recommendations, and the first place they suggested was the Nikau Lodge. How lucky were we!?! The room was amazing and rate very reasonable. Homemade baking in our room, Drinks and Spa if we should want, the bed and shower great as well. The bath products (Shampoo, Conditioner ect) were lovely, especially as we didn't have any products of our own, as we weren't planning to stay overnight . You should see the breakfast menu you get to choose from! and of course, that was amazing too.
We absolutely loved staying with you Jane and Quentin, Thank you for having us at such short notice.

Room Tip: We stayed in the Whale Room, but they all looked great,

This place is blessed with wonderful views of the sea and mountains. Jane and Quentin are very welcoming. Complimentary drinks including wine are available on the landing. It is easy to do the laundry (I popped mine in before breakfast, it was ready for pegging out after - you can use the drier if you wish; iron and board available on request). Breakfasts are delicious. The advantage of the Dolphin room is the chimney from the woodburning stove in the lounge runs through it (see photo) - this provides an extra bit of warmth on chilly days. You do get noise from the highway but double-glazing means it is not excessive.

Room Tip: Dolphin has excellent views and extra warmth from the chimney in the corner on chilly days
