Judy was very welcoming, with freshly cooked chocolate muffins on arrival. We chose the en suite room which is upstairs, opening onto the balcony and has stunning view of the mountains. We only stayed for one night, and we found the accommodation to be clean and comfortable. The breakfast was self-service, as were any teas/coffees, which you could make in the kitchen/diner. The TV was in the lounge, which was shared with Judy and the other guests.

Room Tip: We chose to have an en suite, but the private bathrooms do appear to be just across the hallway to t...

When you first drive into Kaikoura this B and B is right on edge of town, on the 'strip'. Nicer to stay on other side overlooking peninsula beach. Having said that, Kaikoura is small place and it only takes couple of minutes to drive into town/down the coast. Set back from the road it's a quiet spot with 5 rooms. The bathroom was on other side of corridor but was just for us. Nice balcony to sit on and admire views at the back. Breakfast was help yourself - bowl of fresh fruit salad, yoghurt, cereals, toast and jams - eat as much as you want. Can make hot drinks in her kitchen when you want and sit in her lounge to watch TV. A nice difference experience.

Kia Ora
Thank you for your thoughtful review. I would just like to mention that the mattresses are only 3 years old the cover is to keep them clean (which they are) and electric blankets are common in New Zealand usually used to take the chill off the bed in the winter but I leave them for guests from warmer countries who may like the warmth.
Kind regards

This B&B is run by a lady working whale watching company and has a warmth of a home away of the home. Living and dining rooms are great for socializing with other guests. The owner is very pleasant and resourceful. Nice backyard.
We had a downstairs room with a shared bathroom but we had no problems whatsoever as it was across our room and never occupied by other guests. I have to say though that we stayed here only one night on our way south.
Mattress looked a bit worn out (or I had such a feeling because of an extra cover) and everything seemed to be too humid (probably because it was raining those days or it might be normal for Kaikoura as mattresses had electrically heated covers.
Free Wi-Fi. Complimentary breakfast with a lot of fresh fruits (my preference) but also cereal oatmeal (my wife’s preference)

Judy made us feel very welcome for our stay at Brook House. Tea and chocolate muffins on arrival delicious! The room was clean with a comfy bed, our bathroom was not en suite but was next to our room and only used by us so fine. She had the most beautiful miniature poodle who was a delight and playful. The breakfast which you helped yourself to was fine, (Judy had left for work) lovely fresh fruit salad, cereal, toast etc. All in all very good value for money.

Room Tip: En suite is probably worth the extra money

First, the freshly baked chocolate muffins upon arrival was a brilliant personal touch which set the course for the rest of our memorable stay at Brook House. Thanks Judy. Well, she owns a dog and a cat (!!) so people with aversion to pets please consider this before booking (though I must say the pets are adorable and not bothersome).

We had the ground floor room with the shared bath. However, we found that ours was the only room let out in the ground floor and hence the bath was not really 'shared' but not en suite either. Couples should opt for the first floor rooms with double beds. Also, these open out to the beautiful little garden and views of mountains which would be very beautiful in the mornings.

This was our first home-stay, and I was a bit surprised upon arrival to see we were sharing our hosts home, quite literally! However, the house was really clean, Judy welcomed us very warmly and allowed us to use the kitchen as well. The place is a bit away from the centre of the city - a 5 minute drive - so stepping out for a restaurant was a bit arduous. That's why being allowed to cook was such a life saver! The breakfast next morning was tasty, consisting of jams, breads, juices and cereals.

The rooms/bath/kitchen aren't exactly special or spectacular. They're what you will find in everyday homes. However, I think the whole experience was made really special because of the warmth and hospitality of the host. I would recommend this over any motel/hotel in Kaikoura. Again, a big thanks.

Room Tip: Couples should opt for the first floor rooms with double beds.

Fantastic place and excellent location, very close to all the local attractions and restaurants. Freshly baked muffins daily and a large continental breakfast to wake up to in the morning is a real treat! We would definitely stay here again next time we visit Kaikoura!

We were just a night at Brook House. After travelling for 2 weeks in NZ, must say it was my favourite accomodation. When I booked I thought it will be closer to town, so when arrived we were quite dissapointed. I knew as well it was kind of B&B but never expect to share Judy s home. But when Judy welcomed us and show our room, we love it! We had outsite bathroon but it did not bother us. Everything was clean and tidy. The cherry on the cake was next morning when we had a wonderful, tasty breakfast! better than any hotel.
Jusy is an excellent host . We felt as aunties home.
