“The best motel of our trip”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed December 28, 2010

Having read good reviews of this motel it was the first one we tried in Kaikoura and we were lucky they had vacancies. Craig was in the office and was very friendly and helpful. First he showed us an ocean view room, but as we live near the sea we took the cheaper option. It was still a lovely room. High vaulted ceilings, and large glass patio doors made it very light & airy.

The furnishings were tateful & of good quality including a coffee table in front of the sofa, a small thing often missing in studios, but so useful! The kitchen was well equipped & there was a dining table & chairs. 2 electric rings, a microwave, fridge & plenty of pots & pans and other kitchen equipment made it easy to self cater for dinner.

We also had a small terrace but it was not really warm enough to sit out. I think we may have even used the heater!

Craig also booked our whale watching tour for us, and recommended restaurants & other things to do.

We would definately return to the Anchor Inn and would recommend to others without hesitating.

An excellent motel, which has won awards. Great rooms and service. A bit close to the main road, but after dark it gets next to no traffic on it at all.

we stayed here in feb 2008 for one night. Initially we booked a basic room but once we were shown to the rooms with the ocean view we changed our minds. The rooms were spotlessly clean, large and tastefully decorated. The view was breathtaking, the perfect place to sit outside your room with a glass of wine. The nicest place we stayed in in new zealand. We miss it!

I had a special client who had a particular need that the ownership assisted with and exceeded my expectations. Friendly, fast and very accommodating.

We stayed at the Anchor Inn for two nights paying $150 p/n in a Standard Studio. This spacious unit was at the side of the complex however sea views were possible whilst sitting on the small patio overlooking a low fence. We visited this complex 10 years ago and noticed that the standard has not deteriorated with furnishings, carpet and electrical items being updated. The scenic 10 minute walk to central Kaikoura was very pleasant.

A little far from town, but the unit we stayed in was literally at the ocean-front. Loved the view! Other than that, a very clean unit, nice beds and rather spacious too.

Very comfortable hotel, in the middle of Kaikoura, over looking the sea. The staff were really helpful. For a couple of nights exploring Kaikoura it is just right
