Yep its a really nice spot as per the other review descriptions. Its hard to get too excited about a Motel but there are plenty of bad ones and this one is great. I guess having stayed there you would say it is out of the centre of the town but potentially that is not a bad thing. There is a lot of accomodation around and this one is a touch pricier but it is ideal and looked very consistent in quality. The peninsula walk is great as well as the wildlife options.

We stayed just one night and had a corner room with a superb view over the bay across the road (which isn’t busy so noise is not an issue) to the distant mountains. The room was spacious and well furnished – even a spa bath. There are a couple of good restaurants and a cafe where you can get breakfast 5 minutes walk away.

As you drive past the motels along Kaikoura seafront you suddenly see a bright yellow Cape Dutch building - the Anchor Inn Motel! We had a very nice room, facing the sea, with all the facilities you might need . Hard to fault, so a dull review...

When I chose this motel in Kairuora, I knew it's price is on the high side, but I booked it due to other reviews. I am glad I made a good choice.

The motel is so easy to find, along the beach front road. Friendly guy gave us the key and we parked our car right at the kitchen door. Inside downstairs, a living room with 2 two-seater sofa, an equiped kitchen, a bathroom with separate doors for toilet and bath. Upstairs are 2 separate room, 1 with a king bed, the other with 2 single beds.

When we drawn down the curtain of the front glass door, we were greeted with a fantastic view, looking over the beachfront road to the beach to the Pacific Ocean. As day is long during summer, I simply sat on the sofa most of the time and enjoyed the view.

The furnishings looked new and well maintained. The beds were good.

Check out time was 10am but as we will be watching whares in the morning ending about 11am, we requested later checkout and was given.

After reading so many good reviews, we booked a sea-view luxury studio but were left disappointed. We stayed in different motels throughout South Island in our 2 weeks trip but Anchor Inn is definitely not up there with the rest. Though spacious, the room was not what we would call a luxury studio. The heaters in the room and toilet were not working, and this was too cold for comfort. Even the bed warmers took one hour to heat up. When we gave feedback to the reception the next morning, she apologised for the faulty heating. Hopefully the faulty amenities are rectified by now.

My husband I stayed there in 2007 (only for 1 night) and we had booked to go on the
Whale Watch Tour.

Very clean and large room, great location with fantasic views over the sea. From recollection the owners are English and were a really nice and friendly welcoming couple. Anchor Inn is not in the centre of town but only about 10mins or so gets you there. On our way back from town to hotel we walked along the beach and just in time to see a large sea lion emerge from the sea - what a bonus!

Would have no hesitation in recommending Anchor Inn Motel.
