Anchor Inn is an older motel that has been well restored and updated just outside Kaikoura. The rooms meet today's standards (like Hampton Inn or Courtyard), and the location across the road from the beach is excellent. Wifi was free, but the log-in screen kept interrupting us every few minutes and made us think that we were about to be charged, even though we weren't. The continental breakfast is delivered to the room based on a menu filled in the night before. The motel does not have a dining room and does not offer a hot breakfast. Our "upgraded" room did have a small kitchen, so the Anchor Inn would be good for those who want to cook a bit.

We stayed only one night, but the proprietors were very friendly and helpful, the location was fine, and the room was clean and comfortable. It's nice to be able to just wander across the street to the waterfront, not to mention the ice cream stand across the street.

We chose to pay extra for a sea view which was worth it when we woke up in the morning to a blue sky and sea! The motel is right on the road but at far end of town so not noisy. Our room was on the corner and one of the largest we had whilst in motels on the South Island. Big bonus it had Jacuzzi bath and the room was well finished. In our room, which was on the far corner from reception, I think it was room 11, the wifi did not work so we had to use the wifi in reception. Manager and reception staff were friendly. Worth noting that it is a little way into the centre if you want to eat out for breakfast , but easily walkable if you have the time.
Would like to go back and if we do we will book into the Anchor Inn.

Room Tip: Had the corner room further from reception. Think it was number 11 would definitely recommend as lar...

The hosts are so friendly and relaxed, the room was huge, good bed, close to main street Kaikoura and the peninsula walkway. Very clean too, and laundry / DVDs are available for free. We would stay again

What a fab place to stay! Everything was top class, with loads of extra goodies thrown in. For self catering accomodation the Anchor Inn owners really do offer everything you need for a perfect stay.
~During our three days we were able to cook a meal, do our weeks laundry, use WiFi, use the telephone without charge and were given excellent advice on the local attractions.
Perhaps the only thing was that it is a little way out from town, but a good bracing walk is probably good for you.
The standard of cleanliness was remarkable.
We thought the Anchor Inn was excellent - thank you so much.

When we first arrived I was really disappointed because we didn't have a sea view room. However, the room we had on the side was lovely and quiet, comfortable, clean and had everything you needed. The sea view rooms had a patio outside quite near to the road so I was glad that we'd got a side room. The hosts were very welcoming and helpful and after leaving a library book there they agreed to post it back to me which was really helpful. Located in the nicest quiet part of Kaikora and near enough to walk into the town if you wanted to.

Tried two rooms - paid an addtional 30 NZD for one on the front for the view but it was noisy from the wind and sea, and the double glazing was not tinted so anyone could see in and it didn't do anything for the draught either; so we tried another which was okay, on the side so quieter and warmer. All very old and in need of a complete refurbishment - chipped Formica tops, Wi-Fi a problem - limited and had to keep renewing it. Not for us.

Room Tip: The side is cheaper and quieter.
