We chose this motel because of the reviews and the fact that we wanted to do the Peninsula Walkway. It turns out that if you do the long walk round trip from Fyffe Quay, this motel is right on the walk. When we checked in, we were greeted by Keith and given an upgrade from the standard studio room, we had booked, to an executive studio. Keith gave us a small bottle of milk and showed us to our room. It was #2, which is a corner room. It had French doors that opened towards the ocean, which was just across the street, and windows down the side. It felt very airy. The room, kitchenette and bathroom, with jacuzzi tub, were all very modern and up to date. Keith pointed out the features of the room and suggested several restaurants within walking distance. Besides the kingsize bed, there was a table and chairs and a couch.

There was free WiFi, but you had to stand near the door to get a strong enough signal to connect. There was a guest laundry. The charge to wash and for 20 minutes of dry time was only NZ$2 each. This is a great deal since everywhere else we had been, and paid the day before, was NZ$5 for washing and drying. There was even a place you could wash your car. I did no use this service, after all, it is a rental car.

We enjoyed our stay here and would gladly go back.

Room Tip: Get the corner room, #2.

We recently stayed in Kaikoura as part of our 15 day family holiday in NZ. I am urges to write reviews on all places we stayed as some were not what they said. The Anchor Inn at Kaikoura was perfect and the best place we stayed! Great people managing it and exceptionally clean, roomy and home away from home. Thank you for having us!

We stayed for two nights and it just wasn't long enough. Beautiful accommodation, impeccably clean and such lovely managers, we felt so welcome. The room was big, very handy kitchen and the bath was amazing. A stunning part of the world with views of the water from our room. We loved staying here and will hopefully be back again. Free Wifi also a bonus.

Kaikoura is a favourite of ours and Anchor Inn is the place we have chosen to stay on many occasions. The location is great, close enough to walk to town or our favourite restaurant "The Green Dolphin" - see review - and easy distance to take the walk up over the hill to South Bay over Dempseys Track. The hosts are friendly without ever being intrusive and free Wifi is available. A great place to stay and somewhere we will keep coming back to again and again!

Room Tip: If you want sea views they have rooms at the front, but if you want somewhere more private away from...

I had previously stayed here with a group in Feb 2013, so knew it was a nice place to stop for the night. The hostess was ever so friendly and the room and view excellent. Would love to stay longer next time.

Room Tip: The double glazed windows meant the sea noise didn't keep you awake.

We stayed here for just 1 night in July this year as part of self-drive tour through New Zealand. The room was one of the best we'd had on our honeymoon, comfiest bed and best bath! We had a beach-front room and the view was just out of this world! I must say the hospitality is what made the place though - I even got a hug off Josephine the owner when I was freaking out about a small earthquake, lol. All in all a wonderful stay and we'd love to return again. Only thing I'd add is that it would be nice if they did breakfast.

This was our second stay at The Anchor Inn and it was as good as the last. The location is great - right on the waterfront in Kaikoura - and the rooms are spacious and nicely done. The owners are delightfully friendly and welcoming and care about every guest like you are old friends. We use Kaikoura as an overnight stop on the way north so these are brief stays but should we decide to have a few days stay in the area to go whale watching or simply hang out on the esplanade then this is the place we will be choosing.
