The Factory used to be an old dairy factory, as well as a place where sheeps were shaved. The building has been beautifully restored by new owners Janet & Paul. Their policy is to take only one group of guests at a time, meaning they dedicate all their attention to you. The Factory has been decorated with a lot of taste, and we were surprised to see that we had 3 rooms, a great living room with kitchen, and an outdoor jacuzzi. Great value for money at a time where almost everywhere else, we were assaulted with higher-than-normal rates during the Rugby World Cup. Janet & Paul cooked an amazing breakfast for us. First time I ever had crayfish for breakfast. The sea is very close-by, and the mountains in the background. A great place, highly recommended.

Many thanks for your kind review. It was such fun to have you both here at The Factory and we felt extremely honoured to try your very special wine from your family vineyard. We will be thinking of you while watching the final on Sunday!

We stayed only one day at The Factory on our tour of New Zealand's South Island, but my entire family ranked it as one of the highlights of our trip. It was quite a treat to have the place to ourselves. The owners, Janet and Paul, were gracious and accommodating. The rooms and furnishings were top notch; we especially enjoyed the wood stove and hot tub. The easy beach access is a big plus.

Kaikoura is very scenic, with some fun shops and a couple of good restaurants. (Be sure not to miss Hislops Cafe for breakfast.) We especially enjoyed the incredibly scenic drive from Picton (where we arrived by ferry from Wellington).

We stayed at 'The Factory' with two other couples and were incredibly impressed! When I came across The Factory I kept looking at the photos on the website thinking they must have been enhanced ... but they haven't! Everything is just as it is on the website but even more remarkable in real life.

Paul and Janet have created a beautiful haven - an excellent combination of homeliness and classy style, and they themselves are just lovely and so welcoming too! The decor is gorgeous, the rooms are warm and cosy, the beds are beautifully comfortable, there is a warm fire for the winter and the bathroom is stunning. There were fresh flowers, delicious cookies and fresh lemonade to welcome us on our arrival - as well as an excited Paul who had brought in some fresh crayfish that morning!

The outside of The Factory is also very unique - just like the inside - friendly chickens wandering around and remarkable scenery all around - mountains and the ocean all just right there!

Janet and Paul were delightful hosts - very warm and welcoming. They provided us with the most brilliant breakfast with all sorts of fresh treats - the juice was delicious - and the the fresh crayfish was a completely unexpected treat! They are very generous with local information (ask them about the seal nursery - it's well worth a visit), recipes, time and anything that can make your stay even better. They are very relaxed and interesting hosts and it was a pleasure to stay at their 'Factory' - we hope to be back! Thanks Paul and Janet for a lovely time.

Thank you so much for taking the time to write this fantastic review for us. Paul was very happy to be able to provide you with the crayfish for breakfast - we'll just have to hope he keeps having good luck out on the water. It was a lot of fun having you all here especially finding out we have so much in common. Look forward to your updates in Facebook.

We were looking for a relaxing weekend away and that is just what we found. Everything was as we wanted it and more. We had the run of the house and the service received by Paul and Janet was exemplary. The rooms were warm and comfortable and the food was fresh and abundant. The location was perfect, close to the sea and not far from the restaurants and facilities in Kaikoura. We will definitely be back.

We stayed at The Factory with our three boys (7, 9 and 11) and all had a marvellous time. The Factory was brilliant holiday accommodation for us, we had plenty of space, every comfort you could think of and a fantastic location just a minute from a wild, empty beach.
Janet and Paul were lovely; very, very hospitable and the breakfasts were wonderful.
Kaikoura has an absolutely beautiful coastline, with stunning views and opportunities to see wildlife at very close quarters - we love it.

Our recent stay at the Factory was the perfect mix of fabulous accommodation and interesting and relaxed hosts. Janet and Paul have done a fantastic job of creating a unique and comfortable place to stay that is perfectly decorated with everything you need. Weary travelers will appreciate the welcome snack and drink while getting acclimatized to the beautiful surroundings. The location is fantastic (right on the beach), the grounds stunning (beautiful gardens, free range chickens that lay tasty little eggs and a garden that supplies the freshest ingredients that Paul and Janet use in the kitchen) and the unit itself perfect (three big comfortable rooms with comfy beds, a fully stocked kitchen/dining area, wood burning stove to keep you warm and a living room area with top of the line audio visual tools throughout). We especially appreciated the music system with ipod docking station to listen to our favourite tunes – something I am amazed more places don’t provide. In summary, the location and accommodations are amongst the most unique and luxurious we’ve stayed in anywhere in the world and our favourite bar none in New Zealand.

As hosts, Paul and Janet have found that perfect balance of attentiveness and creating space for your desired level of privacy. They were incredibly helpful in assisting with booking of local trips and provided a stunning home cooked meal of local fare as we were too tired to drive into town for dinner. And, Paul has some great stories from to share from his past work experience that we found quite interesting.

Top it all off with a nice relaxing soak in the hot tub at night - we felt our stay at The Factory was amongst the nicest travel experiences we’ve had.

I had the pleasure of staying here, with 3 others, and I can honestly say that we did not want to leave... Such a warm welcome by Paul and Janet, we were invited in to the stylish and extremely comfortable private wing, complete with the comforts of home - and with such tasteful, elegant presentation. The Factory stands in a proud position right on the mysterious coast, a short stroll down a tussock lined track through the sand dunes, your feet are on the sand in minutes. The property oozes with romantic appeal, from the curious eyes of the free range chickens, to the lazy, contented stare of the rather large resident felines.. A sensational home cooked breakfast, complete with the suprise of a freshly caught Crayfish, was the cherry on top. As a New Zealander, I was inspired - I was proud to be experiencing this special and unique property, through the eyes of a tourist. Janet and Paul have put a lot of heart in to this venture, it is evident in every small detail, and it has clearly paid off, We will all definately be back.
