The White Morph Heritage Collection

Reviewed January 15, 2010

The White Morph apartments were very easy to find with lots of free parking. The man on reception was very friendly and welcoming (even gave us a choice of fresh full fat or skimmed milk for our room!).

I was initially disappointed with our room but that was my fault. I had imagined it to look like the one on the website with a balcony overlooking the sea. However when I checked our reservation our travel agent had booked a studio and not a "luxury" apartment or studio and our studio room was exactly as specified in their brochure we had picked up in reception.

The room was on the ground floor off the car park and had a patio window opening onto a garden area. The positive of this was that we were able to park right outside which was great for un/loading our luggage. It had a queen and a single bed. The furnishings throughout were basic but in good working order. There was a flat screen tv attached to the wall. The bathroom was compact but very clean with a good shower. The kitchenette area was ok - kettle, 2 hot plates, toaster, dated microwave with washing up liquid and tea towel provided. There was a launderette onsite.

The White Morph restaurant next door seemed very busy and we managed to book a table for our evening meal - they even managed to give us a window seat. The service was excellent as was the food and it wasn't too far to walk home....across the car park!!!
Definately worth a visit!

We were concerned that being on the ground floor it would be noisy however we had a wonderful nights sleep and it was really quiet.

We chose a basic but delicious breakfast at the Encounter next door but one.

Didn't manage to get on a whale watching trip due to bad weather but enjoyed walking up the road to the cafes and wandering round the shops in Kaikoura. We even managed an early morning run around the peninsula which was stunning and blew the cobwebs away!

Would definately recommend the White Morph - just make sure you know what type of room you've booked.

After reading some of the other reviews, our experience at the 'White Morph' was good.

We found the manager to be very pleasant & helpful. Our studio apartment was quiet & comfortable.

There's an excellent restaurant right next door.

Was surprised to check in to such a classy room in such a small town... Standing in the reception area, one could not have thought that the rooms would be that great...

Location could not have been better.. Pull the curtains and you had the sea in front of you... Towards the left were the snow capped mountains... It was simply WOW !!! Sunrise and Sunset were great...

Was a 10 - 15 minutes walk to the shopping area...The town would not have more than around 20 shops... Got some frozen stuff from the grocery store and made some good grub in the room... A full fledged kitchenette was there in the room...Awesome...

Washrooms were class... Big and clean... Jacuzzi in each one of them... One could pamper one self to the fullest...

The hotel did have a restaurant but we did not bother to venture into it...

Overall, a great place to stay in...

The White Morph is located across the road from the ocean and has very pleasant views, particularly of the early morning sunrise. Adequate parking but a bit too fare to walk into town. Probably fifteen or twenty minutes walk is OK but it isn’t pleasant unless you walk on the beach which will take much longer.

First impressions; Staff excellent. The room we stayed in had good views out over the ocean and a small balcony to sit out and enjoy them.

Excellent kitchen and lounge, the bedroom had a large Jacuzzi bath just off it. I would have preferred better screening of the bedroom. The whole place was a bit open plan, with sliding louver doors.

Very ueful tour office right next door, arranges Albatross, Dolphin and whale watching trips.

Overall, highly recommended.

Where the mountains meet the sea, the White Morph is on the shore of the Pacific ocean, listen to the rollers break on the beach, inhale the cleanest air on the planet.... simply a great place to stay. friendly as can be, clean and comfortable... most helpful reception staff, weather information, tour bookings nothing is too much trouble here - I would reccommend this as one of the friendliest and helpful pleces to stay in New Zealand.

During our world around trip, we stayed at WMMI. We actually loved the hotel. Its a very nice place with a superb view over the ocean and the mountains. Its situated near both the small town, walking paths and were you booked the dolphin trips. We liked to walk beside the beach to downtown We stayed in a standard room but the jacuzzi room seems very nice. The service here was also very good. The price here for a room is also very good. We really recomend this hotel!

We arrived in Kaikoura in pouring rain and cold. We checked out cheaper motels as mentioned in Trip Advisor. But they were rather bleak & depressing and we felt that the weather meant we needed a little comfort. The White Morph filled the bill: modern and characterless but comfortable. A well equipped studio room with patio out front (unusable because of the cold and rain) for 130 NZ $. It was not quite walkable to town but closer enough to both town and the seal colony. It was a shame that the whale watching was cancelled but the Maori Tour was fantastic. The worst thing was the man at the desk: full of false bonhomie. And the internet was very pricey
