This place was a big disappointment. It is basically an overpriced motel. The room smelled very badly and the view, while looking out at the ocean, was really of the car park. They did offer us an upgrade to the remodeled portion of the Inn – but we already paid for a deluxe room and didn’t want to pay the extra money for an upgrade. The deluxe room looked like it was last remodeled in the 1980’s and felt dated. The professional photos are clearly of the upgraded part of the motel, not the older section that we were put in.

Thankfully we were only here for one night.

Dear Christopher

Thank you for your comments, I am sorry to hear you were not happy with you room. The professional pictures here on Trip Advisor show the current décor of our rooms. The deluxe rooms, located on the 1st floor, have a partial obstructed view of the ocean. The car park is located directly below these rooms, with the ocean view beyond the car park. These rooms are sold as partial ocean view, only our Premium rooms have a full ocean view.

Kind Regards

Mike

We stayed a couple of nights in the most expensive room as we wanted a sea view. It was great, but we would say probably priced a bit steep even to get the view.

The room was lovely, very clean & crisp, with really adequate supplies for cooking our own meals etc. There was a double spa bath which was really nice & relaxing though took forever to fill because it was so big!

The balcony was great, perfect to sit out on for breakfast in the sun or pre-dinner drinks & nibbles. We even saw a dolphin out in the bay putting on a performance for us. There was a gap between the glass barricade & the balcony, obviously for water run off, the gap was just wide enough to allow the iPhone to slip down, bounce off the concrete patio below & into the garden … luckily it bounced well & our trip didn't end up twice as expensive - lol!

We found it to be very quiet, hardly ever heard the next door neighbours which meant for a wonderfully peaceful getaway. Bed was really comfy, couch & chairs not as much so so we ended up lounging on the bed when we were in the room.

Overall a great experience & would definitely consider heading back again if money wasn't an issue.

Our (recently remodeld) room was pretty basic in one of the older buildings. Restaurant next door apparently had a fire lately since it was closed parts of the roof were burned. Front desk staff was very friendly. They offer washer and dryer service with coins.
There also a local cinema closeby with lots of bass roaring that can be heard in the room actually. we walked to the restaurant area which is about a 10..15 minutes walk, not too bad especially if you consider it's a walk along the ocean.

I thought this was over priced for the property! Be careful using discount websites. I thought this room was $190/night but it was actually $295/night. The manger would not alter the rates at all! While it was located on the ocean and had a washer and dryer in the room, it was a remodeled older building. We had an ocean view. You could hear the traffic as the road was very close. My husband is an engineer and we couldn't figure out how to run the high tech washer/dryer. It took the manger a bit to figure it out too. I couldn't run the whirlpool in the tub. I felt the price was WAY too high and would encourage you to keep looking. However, this property was recommended by a travel agency. Kaikoura is a beautiful city and well worth the time. Find another place to stay and save your money for a whale tour.

Room Tip: Only a few ocean view rooms but expensive and noisy.

Dear jjohne

The web site you booked on states what our rooms rates are and you as the customer choose from a list of room types and the prices. You selected the room for $295 and that is what you agreed to pay.

We do supply instructions in all our rooms on how to operate the spa bath, plus you can also call the office for assistance. We are always willing to help.

We were absolutely thrilled to enter the property. Lovely room, bathroom and kitchenette. Wish we could stay fr few more days! We stayed there for a night only.

It was a spacious garden view room. Had all the basic amenities.

Room Tip: Ask for a sea view room, they have few garden view rooms as well.

We had booked a 4* deluxe studio and we were upgraded to the 5* premium spa studio. Which was amazing, and we were thrilled at this unexpected turn of events. The room was huge for a studio, with a beautiful bathroom. The spa bath was excellent and big enough for two comfortably. We both slept well and enjoyed the good quality linens on the bed. The balcony faced the water and we enjoyed sitting in the sunshine, watching the waves. The service we experienced at check in and check out was friendly and genuine. We would have no hesitation in staying here again, and would definitely recommend to others.

Room Tip: Waterfront rooms have that added wow factor.

Our family stayed here over Christmas because it had a restaurant open on Christmas Day. Apparently it was closed due to fire but the hotel didn't tell us our or travel agent in advance. When we discovered the closure on their website, their only advice was to provision with groceries, assuring us we had full kitchen---but the refrigerator was tiny. The hotel bills itself as a resort but everything is bare-bones and cramped. The office staff was unhelpful and indifferent throughout. We stayed in four apartments in New Zealand---each was well-equipped and spacious with friendly and helpful staff except this one. No late checkout after 11 AM. Nice location but truly a second-rate hotel.

Dear Clint B

Thank you for the feedback. I am sorry to hear of your disappointment in your stay at the White Morph.

We had informed all Booking Agents of the damage caused to the privately owned and operated restaurant when it occurred. The White Morph Restaurant was never going to be open on Christmas Day this year. As with most places in New Zealand, most Kiwis like to take advantage of the Christmas holidays themselves and there were only three restaurants open in Kaikoura this year, which the office team had all the information regarding these restaurants and was informing guests staying Christmas Day as they checked in.
