Great location right on the beach south of Kaikoura. Stayed here for one night with camper van backed into site facing beach and next to amenities. Shame it was raining as would have been great to eat outside at little picnic table next to camper. Very clean amenities with coded lock for showers-perhaps to stop freeloaders using them. Hot free showers were fantastic as was the music playing in them. Used the laundry for reasonable cost but bring own washing powder. This looks a great family run camp and would be great in warmer months so you could take full advantage of their facilities.

We have camped here for many years and have watched this camp ground develop into the wonderful place it is today. The facilities are kept so clean and to me that is a must have!! Impressed with the liquid soap now in the loos.. So essential these days. The fact of the beach so close plus the river which most summers u can swim in. The sea no but great for fishing! I would highly recounts this holiday park to every tourist

We stayed there one night, our first night of our trip. It was nice and basic. We didn't use any of the public facilities, so I can't really comment. The location is beautiful and it was great to wake up to the ocean at our back window. Very easy to walk down and on the beach.
The staff at the check in was very nice, didn't seem to give very good or detailed suggestions for dinner. We found great options the next morning on our own after an average dinner. Maybe I misunderstood his directions.
We awoke to a flat tire and were able to use the phone for assistance and then wait in our campervan as the reception staff offered to direct the roadside assistance guy to us.

Peketa Beach Campsite is about 8kms south of Kaikoura town. The approach coast road from the south is lovely - driving along right beside the beach so pulling in to this campsite which is also right on the beach front seems perfect. Unfortunately it's inadvisable to swim right here because of the ocean currents. The best camper van pitches have beach views, so ask for them but all are well spaced with some trees and flowering plants etc on this peaceful site. The reception/shop is very good and they sell wonderful ice-creams - the ones that NZ is famed for, whizzing fresh fruit with ice-cream or yogurt. There are DVDs to borrow too. I found the lock on the toilet block annoying - you either forget the code, or get there withiout specs (why would you take specs with you?!) Locking the loos is really quite unnecessary isn't it? The barbeque is locked too so people who want to use it have to find the camper with the only key....but don't let that put you off. It's a lovely site on the beach with a beautiful mountain back drop - you can fall asleep at night looking at the stars and listening to the ocean waves.

Room Tip: Ask for a campsite with a beach view
