“Lovely place to stay”
4 of 5 bubbles Reviewed March 30, 2013

The room was lovely with good views of the surrounding hills. Winnie was very friendly and chatted to us during breakfast. The B&B was a little out of the town which was nice and made it nice and peaceful. We had a lovely stay. Winnie also told us of places to stop and see on the trip north to Picton including Ohau Falls where we saw baby seals frolicking in the stream. Just magic. Thanks Winnie.

There were four in our party and Winnie from the Ardara Lodge put us up in the Cottage which had a kitchen, lounge/dining area, 1 bathroom, a downstairs double bedroom with an upstairs bedroom that catered for three. We were entertained by hedgehogs outside our door with a spectacular vista of the mountain ranges. The cottage provided for all our breakfast needs and the nearby hot tub gave us plenty of relaxation. We had a visit from 2 NZ friends while we were there and there was plenty of room for us to provided for a meal for 6. The Wi-Fi in the cottage does not reach so we had to use the lounge area for reception.

Great stay, comfortable rooms, nice and relaxing surroundings. Friendly hosts with much photographed ragdoll cat. Outdoor seating and spa pool appreciated as was the in-room tea and coffee facilities.

Room Tip: All good, we stayed in Middleton which had anice view

We stayed here in February 2011 right after the Christchurch earthquake, we had had problems finding accommodation and one place we rang gave us this contact. The owner Winnie greeted us on arrival and was keen to show us our room which was an absolute delight, as was the en suite. Everything was immaculately clean and tidy with good quality furnishings. After eating out we were able to relax on the patio with cheese and wine. Later that evening whilst in the lounge we met Phil, Winnie's husband and we sat chatting with them as though we had known them forever. Breakfast was a relaxed affair spent with other residents and the owners round one large table, good selection of food (continental style) and good conversation. Highly recomended.

Booked the cottage which included breakfast. The cottage was tired and the cleanliness was below par.Rubbish outside beside a bin. Bathroom rubbish bin was full of something very unpleasant. Breakfast or should it be what breakfast? Consisted of 2 litre juice in plastic bottle, 1 litre milk in plastic bottle and 4 slices of bread . Cereal was in plastic containers under the stairs .That's it all for $170 .The potential for this to be special is great but looks like nothing has been spent for years.Glad we didn't have overseas visitors as we would have been very embarrassed. Sorry Winnie it's not good enough.

Don't believe any bad reveiws you might have read about this delightful B & B - anyone who has actually stayed at Ardara Lodge (clearly these bad reviews were written by people who have been somewhere else) will know how brilliant it is, and how spotlessly clean and comfortable. The clean and modern refurbishment is recent and is plain for anyone to see. There are very comfortable brand new beds, decent quality bed linen, lovely thick soft quilts, plenty of extra bedding if needed, electric blankets provided, brand new fast kettles, a large silent frig, decent sized fluffy towels, large and spacious shower room. Everything was faultless.

Although to my mind Ardara Lodge is more of a motel really than a hotel, the incredibly reasonable price includes a continental breakfast.

We could not possibly have asked for more, and we have stayed in lesser places for a higher price.

I cannot recommend Ardara Lodge too highly.

Room Tip: We had two rooms, a twin and a double, which would have been perfect for a family.

We stayed with Winnie and had a leasurely time. She was a comfortable hostess. She tried to be helpful as we needed to wash clothes and took all morning. Breakfast was fine. Cottage was comfortable. Price was average. Location was handy. Winnie's advice was good and her account of the earthquake was very interesting.
