“Best Bed&Breakfast Experience”
Reviewed September 8, 2013

We were very impressed with so warmly greetings , very good quality of tea and homemade biscuits were offered .We chose a lovely private cottage with artistically decorated in the garden of Francis and Brian for the night. Warm and comfy bed , good quality amenities of toiletteries and in room tea and coffee of wide selections were provided . We enjoyed the history of Hokitika and this B&B from Brian and it made the stay worthwhile. Breakfast was so special with all good quality produce and the cooking made it even more tasty! the warm hospitality and friendliness of both hosts made us feel at home. A place to be highly recommended.

Comfortable and charming B&B. Very convenient location. Host and hostess were warm and helpful. Brian and Francis guided us to restaurants and local sites and gave us a sense of the history of the town. They upgraded us to an additional room for our party of 5. Breakfast was great--plenty of food and options. Wished we could have stayed longer!

We stayed here for one night (four people) on our way north along the West Coast of the South Island. Overall, a very cozy stay with charming hosts. The breakfast was delicious, as was the welcoming tea in the afternoon after we arrived. The B&B is well appointed, within short walking distance of Hokitika's attractions, including many greenstone/jade/pounamu shops. The B&B was filled with antiques and interesting information. While it may not be to everyone's taste, I actually enjoyed a spot of history in this relatively young country (even by American standards!). Combined with the fine local history museum in the old Carnegie library across the street and a short walk to the shore to envision the area's now extinct maritime activity, and it's a great offering for someone who doesn't really enjoy shopping very much. A fine place to stay on the West Coast.

Brilliant B+B and excellent hosts.
They were very welcoming and knowledgeable about the local history which was really interesting and a nice introduction to the town. We were upgraded to the cottage which had its own art gallery that was viewable from the spa bath! Most inventive. Comfy beds and decent and varied breakfast. Would stay again.

Room Tip: go for the cottage, very private, massive bathroom, spa bath and art gallery.

Situated right in the heart of Hokitika this is a great place to stay, and the Hosts Frances and Brian are just a delight, we spent a lot of time chatting and learning all about the house, the town and the local history. The suite w essayed in was excellent and had everything you could hope for in a B&B. The breakfasts were very good with all homemade delights and we throughly enjoyed our stay. The other great advantage is you can walk to all the local restaurants and cafes at your leisure. Be sure and visit the museum across the road it is first class.

Room Tip: The Suite has a Spa bath.

This was one of 11 B&B stops over both islands during a 22 night tour this march. To begin with we were a little concerned as the property seemed to be surrounded by commercial buildings and warehouses. However, we were soon made welcome and found our rooms to be clean, well appointed and comfortable. Our hosts were very attentive and helpful and we then realised that we were only a couple of blocks away from the centre of Hokitika. This place is rather "olde worlde" in character but none the less a good choice
Parking is roadside but this is not a problem in sleepy Hokitaika
