I have never seen so many glow worms up so close. You walk up this small path and suddenly you are surrounded by hundreds of small lights all around you. They shine so bright its just magical. A real fairy place and kids would just love it.

Glow worms easy to get to, lots of glow worms, and free. What more could you want.
On the main road as you come into Hokitika, but must be dark when you go as too much light gets in, in the daytime.

Didn't really expect much, but found a late night visit to the Dell really quite fascinating (spoilt only by the German tourists speaking very loudly whilst using flash photography on a tripod in the middle of the pathway!)

We walked across the street from our hotel expecting a free sight to only have a few glow worms to see. Were we pleasantly surprised!! There were so many --looked like Christmas lights!

My sister and I went at 9pm. We drove from the birdsong backpackers to the information stop nearby the glowworm dell. We parked at the information area and walked over. Must bring a torch coz it was pitch black. We were the only ones there and it was a little scary as you hear all the insects squeaking... after a min or so there were 2 roads to choose from. We didnt see any sign posts as to which way the glowworm dell was so we just walked straight ahead. We managed to see many Green dots on the trees, we guessed those were glow worms.... lol!! As we were too scared we only stayed for 2 mins and ran back out...

I guess it is a very special experience as you only need to walk a few Mins to see the glowworms but if there were more ppl we might have stayed a little longer. And its completely free!!!

Recommend!
