Tasmanian Company Canopy 01, having designed and constructed four successful treetop air-walks in Australia, have brought their expertise to New Zealand's South Island West Coast, 15 km south of Hokitika. The air-walk through 1.2 ha of native forest is accessible to the disabled and those pushing children in prams. A highlight is the tower landing one 47 m above the forest floor. The viewing platform, accessed by a steep spiral staircase, offers great views of Lake Mahinapua and South Westland mountains. Those who spend more time see more and gain a greater experience. A visitor centre and licensed cafe is a good place to relax and contemplate. Go in the morning for clear alpine views. Soft afternoon light is excellent for the forest views. Look out for the native wood pigeon and tui. Some summer visitors see the graceful white heron. That is a special treat.
