“Hard to find fault”
Reviewed December 9, 2012

We stayed two nights on a TreatMe deal which was great value to start with. The beachfront wing is three storied and we were on the middle level. The view was gorgeous and the sound of the sea very conducive to a good sleep. The rooms are only one deep so all rooms have sea views and no neighbors across hall, just beside you. It was a peaceful hotel despite tour groups staying both nights which can be noisy with early departures. I would not want to stay on the ground floor however, no views there. On our second night it was a bit sad when a huge chemical truck and trailer pulled up and blocked the sea view of both the restaurant and half the rooms. There is a road between the hotel and sea.... We had dinner in our first night and I was impressed. Great fish meal. We had a breakfast which was not so good as it was buffet only and as it was about 9am it was not that fresh or hot. Friendly staff at reception and restaurant, nice touches with lighting dimmers, heated bathroom tiles and spa bath made this a nice place to stay. Would have liked softer loo paper and fluffy robes but being fussy now. The biggest drawback according to partner was that the sleeping wing is separate from reception, bar, dining etc. It rained while we were there so going between restaurant and room was a bit of an outdoor maze. Access to building was by room key so one can't go back to the room independently and the other come back later as they are locked out. Just tricky if you want to relax and leave your mobiles off.

I would love to go back but would not want ground floor and want the super king bed again.

Room Tip: Upstairs beachfront. I peaked in a few rooms that had a king/queen plus a single. As a couple prefer...

When we checked in we were given a room 101 facing the main street, which was across form the only bar in Town that was open late. This in turn led to shouting and screaming from the street until about 3am, leaving us unable to sleep or relax. The room was a clean but very dated and not up to the standards of other hotels we stayed at in NZ.

Beautiful location in front of the Tasmanian sea. Beautiful sunrise. The hotel is very nice, the room was clean, the breakfast as expected, wifi very expensive as in most hotel in New Zealand. I recommend.

We were travelling from Westport and were originally intending to stay in Greymouth until a kiwi recommended us to push on to Hokitika. The wonderful i-site in Westport booked us a bed and breakfast deal at the Beachfront Hotel and we thought it was brilliant. Large room with the beautiful ocean view (must be worth paying the extra for). Like other reviewers, we also got a spectacular sunset the night we stayed. Breakfast was delicious. Right in the centre of town and a 2min drive to the glow worm dell which is worth a look. Would thoroughly recommend this hotel.

After heading across to the West Coast from Christchurch to Greymouth on the TranzAlpine train, my husband & I drove to Hokitika for a one night stay at the Beachfront. We stayed in an ocean view room, which we highly recommend. The bed was comfortable and the heated floors in the bathroom lovely underfoot, not to mention the view out to sea & sound of the waves on the beach right at the front of the hotel was awesome. We had booked on a package deal which included breakfast, plus a food & beverage voucher, so we also had dinner in the restaurant. Fortunately we had booked, as the restaurant was packed. The service was excellent, and the food very nice.

Room Tip: Booking an ocean view room is definitely recommended. The view is great. The rooms are new, quiet, a...

Our view over the Tasman Sea was spectacular. We watched the sun and the sea, and walked for hours along the excellent beach. The room was comfortable and breakfast was generous. In addition, the hotel is convenient to Hokitika's shopping and restaurants.
