So many told us to go and it might be a windy drive but the views are lovely and when you get there the pretty bush walk takes you to the beautiful pale blue milky river and swing bridge. It was busy but not awful. Wear mozzie spray as they are fierce.

We ran to see the gorge as the sun was setting. We didn’t have a lot of time but didn’t want to miss out on the stunning blue color. We were so glad we raced! The color is unreal, even in low light. We were also fortunate that the gorge was completely deserted by the time we arrived. Don’t miss this easy and beautiful walk!

The walk to the Gorge and swing bridge is easy along a well maintained track to a viewing platform. There is an option here to descend some steps and clamber over some rocks right next to the river itself. We did it under blue skies but found the waters a cloudy turquoise rather than crystal clear blue. The scenery from the swing bridge and rocks below is lovely though.

One of the most stunning places in New Zealand, the Hokitika Gorge is one place not to miss. Lovely walk through the bush to the Gorge itself, easily managed by most.

Just breathtaking! Turquoise water, green surrounds, gorgeous walk. Bummed that I didn’t think to take my swimmers.Make sure you pop into the Hokitika Gorge Cafe afterwards. Best coffee I’ve had in NZ. Friendly ladies, had my first whitebait fritter here - my!
