Definitely worth the detour effort. Not my first time seeing a blue river, so probably the wow factor was reduced. Will recommend a visit to this place.

Getting to the gorge was interesting. I was sure we were headed the wrong way as we drove through farmland!
Once we arrived, the trail to the gorge itself was an easy walk.
The colour of the water was amazing and you could see huge fish swimming. However, we could only stay for two quick photos because we were getting eaten alive!!! Even spraying heaps of repellant didn't work. I recommend wearing long pants and a long top regardless of the weather because you'll want to spend more then 1 minute like we did, mezmorized by the scenery.

Its a rather easy and short walk to a beautiful scene, love love love the turquoise river. Its bout 40 mins drive from town. If you have the time and transport, its a muz go!

About half an hour from the town centre, this is a little walk which leads you across the gorge to the side of the river. Paths were well paved and the walk was nice and short. Beautiful views of the river. If you have time do drop by. Nice but definitely not a most do along the west coast or New Zealand for that matter.

This was SO worth the wee drive off the main road. It is like being away in another world - a true slice of Kiwi paradise. Stunning scenery, lots of bird life (loads of super friendly fantails) with peace and serenity unmatched. I found myself taking lots of deep breaths to make the most of such pure fresh air. It is a goosebump place!
