Our stay at Breakers could not have been better, unless it had been longer. Jan will give great advice as to what to see during your time there, and she gave us priceless advice on what to see and where to hike as we continued our trip south. The rooms are comfortable, well appointed and some with spectacular ocean views. You can choose to relax around the spacious house, walk the grounds and beach, or take one of many short drives along the shoreline to unforgettable seascapes.

Room Tip: Several rooms have outstanding ocean views, steps from the beach.

Coming from the Abel Tasman National Park we went to Breakers B&B. Jan provided us with a list of all places we should visit on our route to Greymouth. And we did almost everything and enjoyed it. We had a wonderful room, with a big bathroom, and a wonderful lookout from the deck outside - and not to forget - a delicious breakfast. Even the weather was not very friendly, we loved this place very much. If we´ll ever have the chance - we´ll come again. Thanks!

If way back in the swinging sixties you were one cool dude who enjoyed cruising the Pacific Coast Highway in your Ford Mustang to the sound of the Beach Boys' "I get around" playing on the radio, now that you're probably pootling around in some Japanese 4x4 singing tunelessly "My Heart will go on" you're going to love the coastal highway on New Zealand's South Island between Westport and Greymouth.
It's hauntingly and wistfully beautiful and worth slowing down & taking the opportunity to explore this marvellous and magical area.
And where could be better to base yourself than Breakers?
Other reviewers have correctly extolled Jan's fine attributes, not only as a great host but as the best concierge you're likely to find in this part of the world, who can tell you where to go, what to see and even where the best supermarket is located should you want one.
The accommodation we requested and were given was the Breakwater Suite which had ample space and a great deck on which to relax and look out on the beach and ocean down below where there is an opportunity to have your own solitude whilst you stroll.
We had the best sleep during our 3 night stay but that might have had something to do with the sound of the lapping waves which is the last thing you hear as you drift off after a memorable day well spent along the coast.
In the words of the Moody Blues,"If you have to go, you better go now!"

What a wonderful place!
The view is going to take your breath away.
We were in our honey moon and we had very bad weather the days before, we got at the Breakers on time for the sunset and than we knew it was worth come from Italy to be there just for see this slice of paradise.
Warm hospitality, excellent home made pizza and nice people to have breakfast with.

We will come back sooner or later!

Arriving on a very nasty day it all turned out very well. The beautiful location and the very tasteful decor and our host Jan - managing everything for us - let us forget all our troubles very quickly. Not to forget the breakfast, which was delicious! If we will ever be at the South Island again we will certainly come and stay at Breakers again!

We only spent 1 night, much better than expected, very high quality accomodation and hospitality, would love to return and relax at the Breakers. We could have spent a day just walking in the area. A good base to visit all the sights, and the sea lions, especially the drive along the coast road, much better than the Ocean road in Australia. Jan's suggestions for the rest of our trip were perfect, especially the curosity shop.

Based on all the recent reviews we couldn’t have made a better choice than staying at Breakers (18/12/12). From the moment we made our booking, Jan our host, emailed us and kept in contact until our arrival. To be upgraded to the Sunset room was sensational – wow, truly 5 star accomm – so much room, beautifully decorated and so very comfy, and we were certainly spoilt with that magic sea view. Jan is an exceptional host, not only with all the helpful information to get the very best out of our holiday, but a great cook too – the banana walnut pancakes are superb. The drive from Dunedin to Greymouth was worth it!
