Unfortunately the welcome we received left a lot to be desired. Not even a smile on check in and we were told ' if you don't book for dinner you wont get one' and not told where or when breakfast was. Room was average although the bed was very comfortable. Bathroom small. We were not even asked how our stay was on check out and still no smile.

The wallpaper was peeling off the walls in the bathroom. The bathroom door didn't close. The sink was so low that I hurt my back bending over to use it and I'm only 5'7". The walls are thin. The food is substandard.

What's good? The staff tries very hard to make your stay satisfactory. Now, if the management would only do something about the shoddy conditions....

We stayed in room 50: try to get a different one. In fact, try to stay in a town other than Greymouth.

The front reception of the hotel was promising, great new modern decor and a classy flair. The receptionist was very friendly and helpful.

We went to our room which was more of a unit that you would associate with a motel, not a hotel. The bed was wonderful and the sheets and pillows were great too, had a great night sleep.

The room was obviously very old and had been updated but it was not a complete success. A few old pieces of furniture brought it down as well as the ceiling being the old stucko you'd expect to find in your grandparents' house. The bathroom was clean but average. Not luxurious by any stretch of the imagination but had what we needed.

The mini bar was small and didn't include any alcohol. There was no price list either.

The spa was very nice, deeper than any I've been in and great to spend an hour or two in. The pool was disappointingly unheated and being Greymouth, it was far too cold to enjoy.

Overall we had a pleasant stay and would consider staying there again if the price is right.

Room Tip: Rooms on the south side receive the most sun.

Thank you for your feedback. We appreciate your time taken to leave your comments and we will look at ways to resolve your concerns raised to improve future guest experience. We are glad that you enjoyed the quality of the bed and had a great night sleep and also enjoyed our spa facility. We have no alcohol in our min-bar due to recent changes in local liquor laws. We have taken on board your comments regarding our room decor and are currently undergoing another stage of refurbishment to improve on this. Once again thank you for your feedback and we hope to see you again on your next visit to Greymouth.

Our room was adequate enough, although very dated. Separate toilet and shower, with the sink being in the room with the shower making washing your hands after using the bathroom impossible until the person using the shower was done. No locks on those doors either, oh and no ironing board.

Other than that there's no real reason to complain except for the RIDICULOUS internet policy. They allow 2 hours free before you spend $10NZ for the next two hours. But you may also only use ONE device at a time?!?!? This is 2014, everyone has at least one device they need to use wifi for especially for those of us traveling from other countries without cell service. Between our family of 4 we have 5 devices and to juggle between who was gonna use the wifi at what times was a hassle to say the least. Look into changing that management, it is not a big expense to offer complimentary wifi or at LEAST a better policy than what you have. Again, this is 2014, not 2004.

Thank you for your feedback. We have taken on board your comments and will look at ways to improve on your concerns raised for future guest experience. Regarding no ironing board we have since checked all rooms and all ironing boards are present, we do locate them in the wardrobes in the rooms. We provide 2 hours complimentary wireless internet per room per night, we feel this is sufficient for a guests stay, the reason why it is one device at a time is to prevent overloading and to give everyone a fast online experience. With technology improving we are constantly looking at ways to improve our internet facility and your comments will not go unnoticed. Once again thank you for your feedback and we hope you enjoy your onward journey.

The Lodge house where we were accommodated smelt musty and damp. The decor was dated and the toilet cistern was leaking and continued to do so throughout our stay despite a receptionists best efforts to repair it. The Bathroom shower fitment was ancient. Internet was extortionately priced although the first 2 hours were free thereafter it was priced at NZ$10 per every 2 hours. The room we occupied needs a complete refurbishment. Mr Howard

Thank you for taking the time to post your feedback. We sincerely regret not meeting your expectations on this occasion. We are however a little confused as we do not have a "lodge room" available at our hotel. We apologize for your toilet cistern leaking and have since had a plumber in to resolve this issue. We offer 2 hours complimentary per day/ per room as we feel this is sufficient for a guests stay. We take on board your constructive feedback and will work on ways to address these issues. We do hope we will have the opportunity to welcome you back to The Ashley Hotel to improve your experience with us.

Very reasonable priced hotel room kept to high standard, superb staff, good amenities.
Did not dine as too pricey for my company credit card, but otherwise very happy.

Enjoyed the excellent sheets!
Struggling to find 200 characters so here are a few more...."....."......."........Ting tong idle I PO. Think something is wrong with this app as that must be enough.
