We stayed here in May (in the cat room). Each room has a different animal theme, and we were collected from the station in the 'ark'. The room was comfortable, and there is a good sized kitchen and communal area and a nice garden. The owners and their dog are really friendly. It is not far to cafes/bars etc in greymouth, and easy to get to the station for the tranzalpine to christchurch and buses to the glaciers.

Bunks have very soft springs, mattresses. May bother some. The double was very comfortable though!

Lovely dog and matt the owner was awesome. We checked out at 10 and he let us use the kitchens and hang around waiting for the tranzalpine.

Good location and good showers and layout.

Due to heavy rain, the staff from tourist information helped us to make the call the hostel, 5 mins later the staff picked us up from the bus station, thank you for the service ! This is a unique hostel with different theme in each room, the staffs showed us some of the room and it is really lovely. we got a lovely pig room but the bedframe is not strong to support the maitress thus I don't have comfortable sleep as the maitress is sinking, owner should do something for the bed. Super lovely dog and great environment as we stuck in the rain and spend most of the time in the hostel.

Spend 1 night here at the end of a 3 week trip and it was just great. We pitched our tent in the back yard for $16 each and were welcomed by Baz the gorgeous golden retriever! Lucky to get free wifi while we stayed and the lounge and kitchen areas were well equipped. Would stay there again.

I stayed in the Unicorn room.

This hostel is handy if you are doing a long drive down the West coast and want to break it up in Greymouth. I think this hostel would also be fine for a longer stay if there is anything you want to do in the area or you just want to relax. Nice big common room, phone in the hallway. Friendly atmosphere.

The hostel has lots of character - it is a period building and the rooms are animal themed with fun cartoonish paintings. I agree with other reviewers about the mild musty smell - the whole hostel had a bit of the feeling of a church hall you might stay in with the brownies.

I didn't use the kitchen but it looked big and clean. The shower and toilet and my room were clean.

The man who greeted me was friendly and polite and showed me around properly when I arrived. There is a sweet friendly dog and a cute cat on the property.

Within the main building the wifi was fast and had good signal. You get a free voucher for some limited wifi.

I think the unicorn room would be ok for couples - it is outside the main hostel building so it is quite private and is very quiet. However for me, this room had some big downsides and I wished I had stayed in a dorm or got a room in the main building. The downsides were (1) wifi signal does not reach the room and (2) as you are not in the main building you have to go outside before you can use the shower or the toilet. This is particularly annoying at night when you have to go around the whole building and then press in a code to get in (fiddly in the dark!), the Tv also did not seem to work in that room (possibly just me though).

The dorm rooms looked nice and spacious. In the one I saw into they had single beds rather than bunk beds also.

There is no parking actually in the hostel but you can park for free in the car park that is opposite the hostel (10 seconds walk) where there seemed to be lots of space.

This is a nice place..
The room was good but there were a limited amount of bathrooms and toilets (or we just didn't find them).

It's good if your just passing trough Greymouth but I'm not sure I would choose to stay here if I was going to be in town for long :)
