This isn't my first brewery tour but it was certainly an interesting one. This is the only one I've ever been to that had an open fermentation vat (now allowed in the US) and it was interesting. The brewery itself had some very unique machinery that the head engineer designed and had installed (one of a kind) for production, which was pretty cool (if you're into engineering that is).

My wife and I were the only ones taking the tour so it was a lot more personal and the lady who guided us let us roam about more than I think a normal tour would be allowed to. At the end, she let us pour own our beer and have a few of them. We purchased a couple items at the store and they were fairly priced.

The beer itself was quite good. My favorite was the summer shanty. I have never had a better summer shanty ever and Leine's and others aren't even close in comparison. It was almost sparkling, was sweet and was pure pleasure to drink a few. Was really horrible that we couldn't ship any home with us to enjoy later. My wife really enjoyed the red also and it was the best she had ever had. The other ones were also very good but the type of beer they were wasn't a favorite of ours. I think they had a blonde, a heifeweissen and a couple more at the time.

Be prepared to have a designated driver because there is the likely possibility of getting drunk here from the great beer :)

The tour very informative, but the best thing about this tour has to be the amount of beer they throw in for you. They even give you a voucher to redeem a pint somewhere else???!! Although the price is normally $20 for this tour we used a discount website and paid half. What a great afternoon. Oh and the food is amazing!

We did the brewery tour. It was a Saturday, so not much happening, but hubby enjoyed learning about the brewing techniques. We stayed on in the bar/cafe for a wee while and enjoyed sampling the beers & ciders with some West Coast whitebait patties-yum!. Nice new building with a pleasant & casual atmosphere. We will definitely visit again when we pass through Greymouth.

DB have taken over Monteith's are busy badge engineering, moving production elsewhere. There is therefore very limited amount of brewing going on here so not much to see. However, what is brewed here is excellent and well worth a visit for the bar/cafe and sample the various brews. We had a very good chowder to accompany the beer sampling.

Another plus for Greymouth is that it stays open all day Saturday AND Sunday.

There is a fee for the tour but obviously not for the bar/cafe

We arrived on the last day that they were going to be at that site. They had a new place they were moving to so, we didn't get the bewery tour per se. We did get to view a film and had an enthusiastic tour guide who obviously loved her job and Monteith. Loved sampling all their different brews. As we were the last tour of the day on the last day...there were several employees that wondered in to have a last glass. This was special. Order their pear cider any and every chance you get.
