This isn't my first brewery tour but it was certainly an interesting one. This is the only one I've ever been to that had an open fermentation vat (now allowed in the US) and it was interesting. The brewery itself had some very unique machinery that the head engineer designed and had installed (one of a kind) for production, which was pretty cool (if you're into engineering that is).
My wife and I were the only ones taking the tour so it was a lot more personal and the lady who guided us let us roam about more than I think a normal tour would be allowed to. At the end, she let us pour own our beer and have a few of them. We purchased a couple items at the store and they were fairly priced.
The beer itself was quite good. My favorite was the summer shanty. I have never had a better summer shanty ever and Leine's and others aren't even close in comparison. It was almost sparkling, was sweet and was pure pleasure to drink a few. Was really horrible that we couldn't ship any home with us to enjoy later. My wife really enjoyed the red also and it was the best she had ever had. The other ones were also very good but the type of beer they were wasn't a favorite of ours. I think they had a blonde, a heifeweissen and a couple more at the time.
Be prepared to have a designated driver because there is the likely possibility of getting drunk here from the great beer :)
