Discovery Settlers Hotel Whangarei
Ranked #19 of 34 Hotels in Whangarei
Reviewed February 25, 2013

We stayed at the Discovery Settlers Hotel in Whangarei overnite on a trip to Bay of Islands.
Staff welcomed us and took our bags to our room. The room was modern recently redecorated nice duvets on huge king-side bed, and nice bathroom.
Even though the road was close I did not hear any traffic noise and slept very well in the cosy bed.
We had an ex buffet meal in the restaurant with plenty of choice including soup, meats, salads,
veges, and desserts. We also had a buffet breakfast which was equally as good. The food was excellent.
The Hotel is about 10min flat walk to the marinia so as the evening was warm it was lovely to take a walk to the marinia area.
Very nice clean Hotel and we would stay again next time we are in Whangarei.

The Discovery Settlers Hotel on the banks of the Hatea river in Whangarei was the perfect place for our son's wedding reception for 60 guests. Beautiful park-like setting with excellent facilities, ample parking, a pool etc but perhaps their greatest asset are the staff who were welcoming, approachable and attentive. The rooms cannot be faulted, modern, a good size and had everything that we needed. Rick went all out to accommodate us and our family who had come from Scotland to celebrate this momentous occasion with us. The restaurant catered for us and the food was to die for. So many options available all cooked to perfection. The bar service was excellent as was the service in the dining room. The big screen TV in the bar added to the atmosphere as the blokes in our group got to catch some of the sevens rugby. The seated areas outside allowed for groups to stretch their legs and catch a breath of fresh air in-between the formal parts of the evening. The sound system ensured that the dancers of us got to enjoy ourselves too. We will be recommending Discovery Settlers Hotel to our family and friends as quite possibly the best place to stay in Whangarei. Thank you Rick and the team - you guys ROCK!

Room Tip: We booked "comfort rooms" which really could be called superior as they were very stylish...

When my partner and I visited Whangarei for a wedding in January this year, we took the responsibility of finding accommodation for ourselves and four other couples. After reading reviews, we decided to book the Discovery Settlers and we are so happy we did. The demands of our large group were no trouble for Vishal, the manager. On arrival, Vishal gave us a warm welcome and made us feel like valued guests by referring to us by name. He had our room ready and welcomed us to dine at the hotel restaurant that night.

The hotel appeared refurbished and modern. The rooms were fitted with all the modern appliances/fittings etc. The King bed outdid any of the others on our trip around the north island. The shower and water pressure was excellent. Rooms were large and looked out upon a gorgeous view of green gardens at the front where we relaxed and had chats with our travel friends. Laundry facilities were handy and included in the room price.

When we were in need of advice or directions, Vishal was there to help. He went above and beyond to ensure our stay was as pleasant and comfortable as possible. I would highly recommend this hotel!

Just stayed here for 2 nights. From the moment we arrived the staff were pleasant and eager to please. The rooms were large, modern well appointed and meticulously clean. Breakfast was fabulous and again the staff could not do enough for you. I highly recommend this Hotel. We had dinner on the Saturday night with a party of 8 and the food was fabulous.

We stayed at Discovery Settlers twice during our trip to NZ and both times we had a great experience. The rooms are large enough with a comfortable king bed which gave us great sleeps each night! The rooms have been recently renovated and the bathrooms are all clean and modern. Each time we stayed there we received exceptional customer service from the friendly manager Vishal who also upgraded us to the renovated rooms each time! He even went out of his way to go to the shop and buy more laundry powder for us when it had run out - as use of the laundry and powder is complimentary! I would definitely stay there again.

We stayed with a large group all in separate rooms and had a complicated trip but nothing was too much trouble for the manager Vishal.
My in laws stayed in our room instead of us the first night, which was no problem to quickly arrange by phone.
When we arrived the next day, it was as though no one had even stayed there, it was perfectly clean, no evidence of my in laws, despite the in laws NOT leaving the keys for us, they had another set to give us without question and were expecting us.
The room was large & has recently been beautifully renovated with a gorgeous aspect over the green gardens at the front where we relaxed and had chats with our travel buddies in between activities.
We attended a wedding on NYE and hubby left his iPhone in the room, not realizing til much later after we had checked out, late mind you as we were struggling to get out of the amazing bed!
It was no problem that we were running late and after we phoned later to ask about the iPhone, we received a call back shortly after to say it had been located inn the bed and we popped back to collect.
Despite a crazy holiday which could have been stressful, this hotel, in particular the manager Vishal, made our stay in Whangarei a breeze and we would most definitely return there next time!

Although the exterior may seem a slightly unexciting, this place actually offers a lot! Very nice bedrooms with big, comfy beds and a nice little outdoor area with a pool and chairs/tables for eating. The restaurant was closed due to public holidays, and looking through the menu the prices did seem a little expensive (it would definitely be cheaper for guests to take a 5-10 minute walk and grab something at the local restaurants). However, what is really great about this place is the service. The guy in the reception (Vishal) was very, very friendly and helpful, as was the blonde girl that also worked there. Above all expectations! Thanks for a great stay guys and keep up the good work! :D
