“Hated It, Won't Ever Come Back, Over Rated, Expensive, Dont Stay Here”
Reviewed August 8, 2011

This place has not been touched for 30 years. It is dated, old, uncomfortable (Ironic really given the name), and over priced. I stayed in a "Corporate Studio" and frankly the room was worse than many camp ground facilities I have stayed in. This facility typifies the type of hotel that is happy to drag money out of its customers and invest none of it back into the business. For the Money there are many more facilities in Whangarei and I would highly recommend that you stay elsewhere. Dont waste your money here - and if you are considering staying here for the World Cup, please don't. If you have already paid or booked, be aware that this is not typical of a good hotel in NZ.

Room Tip: I dont think there is such a thing as the best room here. My colleagues room was worse.

Stayed here one night for business and have to question previous reviewers. I found the staff to be curt and unfriendly, The room was old and dated, The workmen renovating part of the complex started with power tools shortly after 7:00am. There was significant plumbing noise from other units and the water temperature in the shower varied widely whilst I was in the shower.
At least the room was clean.
I would not stay here again unless there was a significant upgrade.

Room Tip: Ask for a renovated room

II am the manager of the Cheetahs Super Rugby team from South Africa, We stayed in the hotel during March 2011 and enjoyed every moment of our stay. From Rick the General Manager to every one working at the hotel everything is a pleasure.
The food and service were outstanding.
We normally stay in 4 and 5 star hotel were everything is business like. For us it was a great experience to stay in this hotel as we were treated as friends. Eugene van Wyk.

A great place for our seminar. The staff were fantastic; courteous, friendly and helpful at all times. There were many different areas that suited our needs ideally. We loved the outdoor area for relaxing in the sun during breaks. The conference room was great and the staff ensured we had everything we needed. All meals were delicious, and the bar was cute with couches and a fire place. The rooms were cosy, with comfortable beds and a nice outdoor balcony. The place is a little run down, but has very recently come under new management. The new manager was enthusiastic about making improvements, so it can only get better!

The food and service was outstanding - excellent value for small $$. I'm a fussy food person and I couldnt fault the food. We had a set menu and as I didnt like a dessert one night, with no fuss I was given a different one - without my asking!! Yummiest nuts ever at the bar. Only suggestion would be re our bathroom floor - there was still hair left after service, and leaving 2 facecloths would be appreciated :). Thank you for a wonderful stay - lovely location - within walking distance to town and a park for walking - even a hill track if you are so inclined.
