“Good for fitness and great views”
Reviewed May 17, 2013

Save this for a fine day as it would be very challenging on a less than perfect day and a waste of effort since the views are amazing. These are part of the bones of Northland's ancient volcanic past but the bush (rain forest) has softened some of the contours.

A good level of fitness is required and care must be taken but this is well worth the effort. Northland has some great scenery and it really does suggest a lush and tropical island. When is it sunny and warm, it is truly amazing - a scenic gem!

“Great views”
Reviewed May 8, 2013

Easy parking, steep climb. Would prefer it not to have steps all the way up I like a graded track better. Brilliant views from the top and on the way up.

“great walk”
Reviewed May 1, 2013

awesome walk. The path has been recently upgraded so decent steps and gravelled track. you could do it in trainers. watch out at the top if its windy- it can be a bit hairy with young kids. It make a good run of you are really fit 23mins to the top. A run and fast uphill walk combo around 28 to 30 minutes. take plenty of water. Awesome views at the top. There's the Manaia Club right next the car park so you can have a beer and some food -pubgrub after your walk. I've seen Kaka roosting in a tree whilst walking along the path, really good bush. you definitely can't take a push chair up the track. You can do it with young kids but you need a snesible ratio of adults, just for the exposed bit like the rock platform 3/4's of the way up and the top. If you take your time with little ones i'd say its around 2 to 3 hour mission. toilet in the carpark

“Great views from the top”

Couldn't wait to climb Mount Manaia. Really well maintained paths wind upwards through lush foliage and the views from the top are worth the effort
