“What a view”
Reviewed November 23, 2013

Didn't experience the elevator, drove up to the tower instead but the view from the top is just amazing. Apparently, you can see Mt Ruapehu but we saw plenty of Wanganui and that was pretty cool. My youngest daughter counted 40 steps up the spiral staircase to reach the top, narrow but manageable.

“Great view”
Reviewed November 23, 2013

Unfortunately the elevator was closed but we walked to the top of it after walking up the WW1 tower monument. I didn't see a place to review the tower itself but it is a good walk up a lot of steps. The view is amazing. Well worth doing. Many men from Wanganui died in WW!. We were amazed at the effect that it must have had on the community. A very good memorial.

“Great View From the Top”
Reviewed November 3, 2013

The tunnel leading to the elevator was over 600 feet long and the elevator rose over 200 feet. This is a pretty amazing attraction considering it is almost 100 years old. The ride up was bumpy but fun. The operator said she took over for her mother who operated it before her. The cost to ride up or down was NZ$2. We rode up and walked down. Of course once you've gotten to the top of Durie Hill there is the War Memorial Tower. There is no elevator here but it is free. The view from the top was great.
