“Great View From the Top”
Reviewed November 3, 2013

The tunnel leading to the elevator was over 600 feet long and the elevator rose over 200 feet. This is a pretty amazing attraction considering it is almost 100 years old. The ride up was bumpy but fun. The operator said she took over for her mother who operated it before her. The cost to ride up or down was NZ$2. We rode up and walked down. Of course once you've gotten to the top of Durie Hill there is the War Memorial Tower. There is no elevator here but it is free. The view from the top was great.

“Advantage Point to View the City”
Reviewed August 6, 2013

The entrance is opposite the end of the Town bridge : walk a little and view the murals on the wall to the elevator which takes you to the top of Durie Hill. Here you have an excellent view over the entire city and outlining areas. Just a short walk away is the Tower and further a small shopping complex.

“Great views from the lookout”
Reviewed July 30, 2013

Family outing, good for kids. The elevator itself needs updating; could easily make the ride visually interesting to accompany the bumpy ride. Tunnel on ground level leading to/from the elevator is a highlight and could be used for filming horrors or thrillers...! Admittedly, not PG-rated.

“An oldie but a goodie.”
Reviewed July 29, 2013

From opposite the city bridge take a walk up the tunnel to the lift and travel up through the hill to the surface an then climb the spiral staircase on top of the lift house for a great view from the mountains, over the cty and out to sea.
If you are keen, take the short walk to the War Memorial Tower for an even high view of the surounding area
