Beautiful view of the river and the city and surely worthwhile the trip to pass by. Usually on the way heading south.

“Durie Hill elevator”

Not a good experience, moldy & smelly, should be free. it's better to go by car up the road for the magnificent views of the township which are truly stunning.

“LIke going back in time when Elevators were special.”
Reviewed October 15, 2012

At $2 each way, I think it would be hard to get better value for money! A knowledgable attendant & a smooth ride both ways.
I loved the wood paneling inside & was happy I took the easy way up when I was climbing the stairs of the lookout.

“An Interesting conveyance”
Reviewed September 18, 2012

This is quite a landmark in Wanganui, being the only underground lift of its sort in the Southern Hemisphere that is still being operated for the public. A long tunnel that has been decorated with murals. A ride to the top gives you great views of Wanganui, and access to Durie Hill.
