“Trip Up River”
Reviewed November 17, 2012

During the warmer months, you can take a trip up river on the Waimarie, the only surviving paddle steamer in New Zealand. In summer the steamer stops off at the village of Upokongaro where you can partake in excellent refreshments at the 4to4 Cafe.

“The most beuatiful river in New Zealand”
Reviewed October 6, 2012

Get onto a jet boat at Pipiriki to go up the gorge to see magnificent cliffs and beautiful waterfalls, or cruise in a kayak to feel an unspoiled beauty and serenity of the river and its many streams.

“Take the boat trip”
Reviewed July 29, 2012

On a hot sunny day (take a brolly) the steam boat takes you up the river as far as the only church with a tower that has 3 sides at the top. See the engine room which is a rarity of its kind. Wonder at the cliff where the Maoris tested their canoes, amazing. The Maritime Museum has interesting items and is well documented. The river itself is worth looking at as is the Iron bridge you pass under. Cheap at the price.
