Bring the kids and have a welcome break from the hassles of travelling - or if you're a local revisit the joys of your childhood. The dinosaur slide and the big whale are what stand out in my memory of the place... if I think about Kowhai Park they are the images that appear to me.
There are lots of new things there too, the summer water park that is a maze you can sprint through and not get wet - or bring a towel and change of clothes and get away from the heat and get saturated with the splashes, the watercannons and the showers... Bring the kids and make some new memories for them - bring a picnic or a bbq (they are free ) and make an afternoon of it. Those who are more adventurous can try the flying fox or the skatepark. If you come on the weekend then there is a kiosk that sells drinks and ice blocks although the Kowhai Park Diary is just across the road from the Pirate ship...for all of your needs
