There's plenty of hearty home-cooked food at the family-run lodge after the exhilarating jet boat ride up the Whanganui River. While this is not a trip for the unfit or fainthearted, you shouldn't miss it if you want to meet salt of the earth New Zealanders; take a walk through beautiful bush alongside streams; hear about the hardships; see the unbelievably rugged landscape; and perhaps shed a tear for those hardy early pioneers who were finally beaten off the land by politics, falling wool prices and the unrelenting growth of the native bush.
Rooms are clean with comfortable beds. Share toilet facilities.

This is an amazing experience - a lodge miles from anywhere along the Whangari river. The jet boat experience is fantastic and the walk to the Bridge to Nowhere is very interesting and you learn about the settlers who found it all too much. It does get cold on the river so take lots of layers.
