“Great Lunch”
Reviewed January 4, 2013

We went there yesterday for lunch. The staff were very busy and never missed a beat, the food was delicious with good sized portions. Real value for money in a nice setting. Will definitely be back again.

“Eclectic”
Reviewed September 25, 2012

Nice cafe/bar with good coffee and food. The old historic pub has character and atmosphere. Big burgers and home made chips are all good. Friendly service

“Mothers Day Treat!”
Reviewed May 12, 2012

We took both sets of parents here for mothers day ( 2 old birds... 1 stone) packed out with a lovely atmosphere it was a great looking place ( recently been given a lick of paint). My partner was on crutches after having recent knee surgery there was still plenty of room to get round tables and sit comfortable. The food was awesome, great menu with mothers day specials, bouquet of flowers were given round to all the mothers from the owner. Fantastic touch. Staff were friendly and very helpful. After being a front of house staff in a previous life, I was amazed they could cope as well as they did under that pressure and still be friendly. Skill in its self. When it came to the bill It was very reasonable for 6 people, cannot complain. Going back again.... Without the old birds this time :)

“Good for lunch”
Reviewed January 21, 2012

I stopped here on my way through to Coromandel and had a late lunch. I ordered the special chicken and mushroom pasta dish with a coffee and much later the waitress told me they only had a very small amount left. It was a shame the front of house staff weren't kept informed of quantities so I could order correctly. I still had the dish but she added a pie to it to make up the amount.

The food was very good with plenty of mushrooms and chicken in a delicious sauce. The coffee was good and I also had a banana smoothie which was ok and nothing special.

I sat outside on the 'deck' which was pleasant. The staff were friendly and helpful.

“Total disappointment”
Reviewed December 3, 2011

Now called The Brew. Went with a group for a Fawlty Towers night which was pretty lame really. Bar staff didn't know the difference between a pear soft drink and pear cider. The Fawlty Towers thing got a bit tedious after a while and the meal was a total ripoff. Buffet with ham on the bone and a chicken thing scalloped potatoes pumpkin cauliflower broccoli and peas. No white / cheese sauce or gravy. Dessert was apple and blueberry crumble (some of the oats weren't cooked) and pavlova. Not a lot of choice compared to other establishments. We were told that they were short staffed and had a run of people in for coffees late afternoon. I'm sorry but that's not our problem. Will never go back.
