“Owners have thought of everything”
Reviewed January 15, 2012

Great place to stay for walking the Pinnacles track which is well worth it. Management are not so bad, just need to humour them I think..

I do like the way that the owners of this place seem to have thought of everything. Well equipped kitchen, plenty of comfy sofas, nice garden with BBQ. Big TV lonuge with pool table and a big upstairs balcony with great views (great for sitting and watching the sunset).

Visited during our 30 day stay in N.Z, it was our first time. We hired a car which was excellent and good value. The hotel was clean and tidy in the rooms we looked at.
As for some of the previous comments I must dissagree. The welcome was warm, polite and freindly. While we were doing the paperwork the lady made us tea. The bathrooms were clean, so I really dont understand the other negative comments. The place is ideally located for Thames and surrounding areas for touristy types. Perhaps some of the moaners just wanted to use the facilities for free and decided to write bad reviews becuase they could not. I would like to say thank you for helping to make our first visit to N.Z a wonderful experience. Fred and Peter

My partner and I have stayed here twice over the past few years. We love coming back to an excellent Backpackers facilitiy, central to all the attactions of the Coromandel. Friendly and helpful staff really do make all the difference (thanks Cheryl & Craig). Having travelled throughout Europe for over 4 years its so good to see such a superb backpackers that really does go the extra mile to look after their visitors.

I found this backpacker lodge to be a comfortable place to stay BUT it needs new owners. The welcome I got when I arrived was " How many other people are in your van outside, how many people are going to sneek into your room later without paying" That blew me away. Also the people behind the desk were in general just unhelpfulnot interested in helping with directions or anything. When I asked for directions they said to go to the information centre which is the other side of town and not in the direction I was travelling. Apart from this it's not a bad place to stay as long as you can put up with rude people at the desk.

have to concur with the majority of other reviewers of this place; the building and facilties are great, room fantastic, everything pretty much spotless, but the owners certainly leave you scratching your head wondering why they run a backpackers when they so clearly hate backpackers and dealing with the public. Real shame, as if not for the grumpy/rude management making you feel like naughty schoolkids, this place would be wonderful.

I wouldn't support the owners of this hostel with your valued international currency.

Amongst all of the rude new zealanders we met who were not into the "van people" tourists, the elder woman and her 40-something son were the most memorable!

On a rainy July evening, I went into the reception to inquire about the hostel, but was in need of the internet as our international (aussie) bank cards were not functioning, and it was our very first day in NZ. The receptionist was unbelievably rude going on a big rant about "VAN PEOPLE" messing up the country - whatever.

Whoever runs this place should NOT BE IN CUSTOMER SERVICE!!! Why do people who HATE tourism get into the tourist industry? I've never met such hillbillies. Save your money, go elsewhere.
